Barbara Ann Hajek, age 91, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, in San Antonio, TX.
She was born December 11, 1930, to Aleen Chavez and Otto Richter in San Antonio.
Both of her parents' families are part of the history of San Antonio. Her father's family founded Richter's Butter Krust Bakeries in 1882. Many residents of San Antonio will recall Safety Sally at the school crosswalks and the iconic Butter Krust billboard with the spinning slices of bread. A tradition for grade school children was a school field trip to the Butter Krust Bakery on Broadway, where each child received a ruler, pencil and a warm slice of buttered bread at the end of the tour. Her mother, Aleen Chavez Richter, is a direct descendant of Canary Island families, who arrived in 1731, at the Presidio de San Antonio de Bejar. Barbara is a member of the Canary Islanders. After marrying her husband, she lived in England where Anton was stationed. While there, they traveled to several nearby countries. When they returned to San Antonio they continued to travel, visiting all 50 states, 39 countries, and 7 Canadian Provinces. This also included annual trips with the growing family to the Texas Coast, which she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Anton Paul Hajek Jr. and grandson Anton Paul Hajek IV.
Barbara is survived by her children, Anton Paul Hajek III (Mary Ann), Sharon Hendricks (Raymond), David Brian Hajek, and Lisa Forrester (John); granddaughter, Elizabeth Hajek; as well as numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary North beginning at 6:00 PM.
