My heart sank when I called Carl last month and Emily answered and told me of Carl's condition. Now he is gone and I will greatly miss him as I looked up to Carl as an older and wiser brother. My condolences to Emily (Pam) and his children. Our friendship span forty plus years. Pam, I may not make it to New Braunfels as I have no one that can drive me but Carl will always be in my heart. My sympathy goes out to all of Carl's family. Carl taught me a lot about people when I worked for him at Sebera's. These lessons served me well throughout my life. We had terrific fun fishing with old Bob VonToussaint in my back tank. Luckily, I had a chance just recently to visit with Carl and laugh about all the good times we had. He will be missed.

Opa was so kind, loving, and helpful. I will always remember the time I played my cello for him and when I was done he was teary eyed and I asked what was wrong and he said "its the smoke from the fireplace". Your stories that you told were the best ones I have ever heard, and I wish I could have heard more. In German, Opa means grandfather but when I say Opa it means so much more than that. It means someone who you can trust, love, and have fun with. When I said Opa I thought of you with a smile on your face. Thank you for always encouraging me and making me feel like there is always hope. Rest in peace Opa. I love you.

Pam; Jim and I are so very saddened to hear this news. We have so many fond memories of you and Carl. Carl was truly our first Texas friend. Jim loved him so very much and laughs about their times spent together in live oak. Our hearts ache for you. Carl had a heart larger than Texas. We feel very blessed to have been a part of your lives. Prayers and hugs to you.
