Carl Raymond Rutherford, Jr. passed away on April 20, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas.
He was born on August 16, 1930 in San Antonio, to Carl Raymond Rutherford, Sr. and Anna Pearl Heugatter Rutherford. Carl attended school in San Antonio and graduated from Burbank High School in 1948.
After high school Raymond served in the USAF from 1949 to 1952 serving part of that time in Tripoli, Libya, reaching the rank of S/Sgt. Later Carl attended Trinity University where he received a BS in Home Building (HMBG) in 1958. Carl is honored as an "All Star Patron" on the alumni rolls for his continued support of the university. Carl worked as a home builder in San Antonio, working many years for E.H. "Cotton" Jaroszewski, and later as an independent contractor. Carl will be remembered for passing on his carpentry skills to the "younger" generation and for the many "honey do's" he completed for family, friends and neighbors. Carl and Jerry enjoyed traveling to various parts of the country and to east Texas to visit relatives. They also loved walking and traveled throughout Texas to participate in Volksmarches. Carl and Jerry continued to maintain a healthy lifestyle by going to the gym to lift weights and swim. Carl will be remembered as "one of the kindest men to walk this earth" by the neighborhood children. Carl and his wife Geraldine loved all these children like their own grandchildren, and they returned that love. We will miss being able to ask Carl for his advice, his sense of humor, his quiet nature, and his friendship.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Lewis Rutherford, his beloved wife of 62 years, Geraldine Virginia Rutherford; niece, Martha Norton; and nephews, Larry Norton and Keith Rutherford. He is survived by his nieces Anita Bectel (Cliff), Kristina Rutherford, Darlene Norton and Nancy Corrigan; nephews, Randy Horadam, Donny Horadam (Karen), Kyle Rutherford (Paige); and numerous other family and friends.
