Claude Nicholson, III

Claude Wilson Nicholson, III, "Tres", passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Oct. 25, 2025, in San Antonio, TX after a courageous battle with cancer. Tres was born on Oct. 29, 1956 to Claude and Kay Nicholson in Alexandria, VA.
Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Ashtabula, Ohio, where he spent his childhood. Tres was a graduate of Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio.
Tres went on to study at Trinity University, where he was on the golf team and a proud member of Chi Delta Tau fraternity. During his senior year, Tres met and began dating his future wife, Patricia "Patty" McGinnis. He graduated from Trinity with a B.A. in 1979 and then embarked on a long career in the insurance industry. Tres and Patty were married in 1981.
Tres' biggest joy in life was being a father to his two sons, Wilson and David! He was very involved in the lives of his children, from camping to coaching their various sports teams. He especially loved coaching their teams in baseball. He served on the Alamo Heights Little League Board and was President of AHLL in 2003. Tres was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching golf, Ohio State football, the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Guardians and the San Antonio Spurs.
Tres loved playing golf, cooking on the grill, taking many family trips to the beach, winning games during family game night, joining his friends for happy hour and savoring a good Scotch.
His faith was an important part of his life. He and Patty taught Sunday school in their sons' classes for many years. He was a member of University Presbyterian Church.
At the time of his death, Tres was employed at Southwestern Motor Transport as the Director of Insurance/ Risk Management.
Tres will be remembered for his sense of humor, his fondness for giving goofy nicknames, his incredible generosity and his friendly spirit. He will be greatly missed!
Tres is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patty McGinnis Nicholson, sons Wilson (Adrienne) of Dallas and David of San Antonio, his brother John Nicholson (Teresa) of Ft. Myers, FL; and many beloved family and friends. Tres was predeceased by his parents, Claude and Kay Nicholson.
A memorial service will be held at University Presbyterian Church 300 Bushnell San Antonio, TX 78212 on Saturday, November 22 at 1:00 pm.
