Creston Alexander King, Jr.
July 8, 1935 - November 11, 2025
Creston Alexander "Mickey" King, Jr., age 90, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on November 11, 2025.
Born in San Antonio on July 8, 1935, he was the son of Creston Alexander King and Margaret Read Haymore King. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Laura Yarrington King; his parents; and his grandson, Nathan Tyler Irving.
Mickey is survived by his children, Creston A. King III (Elizabeth Nicholson), Laura King Irving (Scott Nathan), William Reynolds King II (Tari Ann), grandchildren Cuatro, Libby, Allie, Jeremy, and Grace; his sister Margaret King Stanley; nieces Torrey Stanley Carleton (James Ed) and Jean Cullen Stanley.
Mickey grew up in San Antonio, attended San Antonio Academy, and graduated as valedictorian of Texas Military Institute. He studied at both Rice and Duke Universities and earned his PhD in Physics from Rice. After serving in the U.S. Army at Edgewood Arsenal, he began a 45-year career teaching and conducting research in physics at Loyola University in New Orleans, where he later served as department chair. A lifelong golfer, he also won the Texas Amateur Golf Championship in 1957.
Beyond academia, Mickey enjoyed restoring classic cars as a member of the New Orleans "A's," flying as a GI Bill-trained pilot, and teaching many New Orleanians to fly. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol and the New Orleans chapter of the Quiet Birdmen. He was a member of St Francis of Assisi Church in New Orleans. In San Antonio, he was a lifelong member of the San Antonio Country Club and The Order of the Alamo.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the San Antonio Country Club, 4100 N New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, TX 78209.
