I learned today of David's departure to his reward. In the summer of 1966 I at 17 reported to my first assigned duty at Laughlin AFB, where I met him. For about a year, until I was reassigned to Lowry AFB, we worked together in the same office, and my barracks room was only two or three doors from his. David was my friend and mentor during that time, and I always enjoyed both his irrepressible sense of humor and his genuine care for others. Although we took very different paths in our lives, from that early connection onward David has held a very special place in my heart to this day. Farewell, my dear friend. I will see you again soon.

To the Esparza Family:
David and I knew each other casually through his almost daily visits from his office in Recruiting Service at Randolph AFB to the HQ AETC Surgeon's Office where I worked. His demeanor was quiet and humble, and there was a sense of peace and tranquility just below the surface of his personality and character. I deem it my personal loss and I truly regret not having taken the time to get to know "the" David as some of his friends have beautifully described him. There is much I could have learned from this Man of God, but I still feel blessed for those brief encounters when I felt a special kinship with this spiritual gentleman. My sincere condolences, sympathy, and love to David's family.

David was such a sweet and caring man. I always enjoyed visiting with him when he came to our office. He will be missed by so many. I remember him fondly in years passed when he would run through my neighborhood. Rest in peace dear David. Love and hugs to the lovely Miss Lucy.

We will miss this gentle and compassionate man who helped so many people. It is so difficult to imagine life without him. He and Lucy have been good friends of ours for many years. We had a private joke about how much he loved my Salsa. Our love goes with you always David!

Dave was a fine man; I've known and talked with him through the years, also as a "friend of Bill W." He will long be remembered by those who were privileged to have his friendship

I have lost an old friend and suddenly the memories flood back. He always told me, "We were old when we were young," and he was right. I am so happy he found the same level of joy he always tried to give to others. I hope his family comes to learn all of the lives he touched and all of the good he did. Bless you all in this time of sorrow.

Our sincere and prayerful condolences to Lucy and all of our extended family of cousins, nephews and nieces. Uncle David was a humble gentle giant who loved his family and mission in life. He stayed in touch with all of us. He was a sincere listening post for so many of us, especially those in most need. His signature farewell when we spoke was usually " I love you and keep the faith" Thanks for the many precious memories, Tio mio.
