Donna Lee Meador, age 73, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, in Frisco, TX, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Donna was born on March 27, 1948, to Joe and Lillian Meador in Fort Lewis, Washington. She attended elementary schools in Council Bluffs, IA, Hawaii, and Fort Belvoir, VA; the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades in Hiawatha, KS; and high school in Eureka, KS, graduating in 1966. After high school she attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS, receiving a degree in Elementary Education in 1970. She taught first grade her first four years after college in Belle Plaine, KS, but wanted to travel the world. So, she applied for a teaching opportunity through the Department of Defense (DOD). Her first DOD assignment was to Okinawa, Japan for two years during which time she traveled extensively throughout Asia. She subsequently transferred with the DOD to Germany where she continued both her teaching career and her desire to "see the world" via travels throughout Europe. Following her four-year tour with the DOD she returned to the US and spent the remainder of her teaching career in San Antonio, TX, first teaching in the San Antonio ISD and then the Northeast ISD from which she retired in May 2002. Following retirement from classroom teaching after 40 years, she worked in a San Antonio retail Hallmark store.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother and father and her youngest brother, Thomas Joseph Meador. She is survived by her older brother, Joe Meador (Mary); her younger brother, James (Cristy) Meador; her sister, Debbie (Tony) Forcum; one nephew, Brandon (Kim) Forcum; two nieces, Amy Forcum and Carli (Benton) Hyatt; five great nieces, Emily Forcum, Haven Hyatt, Harper Hyatt, Hadleigh Hyatt, and one great nephew, Hawkins Hyatt; plus, countless friends and fellow teaching professionals.
