Ethel Valla Obituary

Ethel Valla
December 17, 1942 - October 28, 2023
Ethel Valla (nee Polyakovics) died on October 28, 2023, at age 80. Ethel was born on December 17, 1942 in the Bronx, New York and raised in the Bronx and Queens.

She married Henry Valla on May 31, 1969, and moved to San Antonio for Henry's next U.S. Army assignment at Fort Sam Houston. They lived in Japan and Italy during his military service, returning to San Antonio after Henry's retirement from the Army.

Ethel was a caregiver most of her adult life, including working with special education children at multiple middle schools. Ethel loved travel and cruises, was an animal lover, having dogs in her family since she was young. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, and enjoyed crafting blankets and scarves for friends and neighbors' children.

She is preceded in death by her parents Grace and John, brother Philip, and husband Henry. Ethel is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Matthew) and son Scott.

A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Animal Defense League of San Antonio or K9s for Warriors.

I’m sorry I never got the chance to see you or stay in touch with you, Uncle Henry, and my cousins Scott and Jennifer after the back to back passings of my wonderful grandparents. You knew them as mom and dad. I sways thought about all of you and the years I’ll never get back. Rest in Peace Aunt Ethel.

I´m sorry I never got to know you but thank you, Ethel, for Scott - he is a blessing as a friend to me.
