Eugenia "Genie" Johnson
November 19, 1935 - November 3, 2025
Eugenia "Genie" McGough Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father at 11:20 pm on November 3, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and raised in Natalia, TX, Genie lived a life filled with love, faith, and service.
She was a devoted wife to Alvin Ray Johnson for 56 years, and a nurturing mother to four children. Her life was a testament of compassion, strength, and dedication. She retired from both National Bank of Commerce and NEISD, where she served the MacArthur High School cafeteria with warmth and care.
Genie was deeply involved in her children's lives and her community. She served as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, softball coach, homeroom mom, and counselor. Her love for camping, crafts, and family was evident in everything she did. She found joy in crossword puzzles, reading, traveling, and spending time by the coast. She adored her dog, Dilly.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; her parents William Roy and Eda Marie McGough; her sister Lorna Goebel; her in-laws William Alvin and Louise Johnson; and many beloved siblings-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Genie is survived by her loving children and spouses: Allen Ray Johnson (Rhonda), Carolyn Johnson Fletcher (David), Glenn Edward Johnson (Penny), and Karen Denise Wynne (Earl); in-laws Barbara Huble and Len (Marsha) Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; Grandchildren Eric, Christopher (Trish) Johnson, Brandon (Bianca), Chad Fletcher, Stephanie (Allison), Melissa, Kyle Johnson, Paige Parker, Katie, Sara, Nick Wynne, Great-Grandchildren Haleigh (Josh) Salinas, Emily, Brandon, Jackson Johnson, Isaac Gauthier, Brin, Beau, Haylee, Emily, Holden, Ivey Fletcher, Parker Laughlin, Blair Johnson, Nola Wynne, James Grizzell, and great-great granddaughter Jamie Salinas.
Genie's love for athletics began at Natalia HS, where she played volleyball, basketball, softball, and served as drum majorette. She continued playing slow-pitch softball as an adult and remained active in her children's worlds.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at SA Wellness Center and Rehab for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N Loop 1604 E, SA 78232, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, 5-7p. Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3300 Urban Crest, SA, TX 78209, Friday, November 21, 12:15p. Burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1:30p.
