Fernando De La Garza Obituary

FERNANDO C. DE LA GARZA
November 1, 1947 - April 18, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fernando C. De La Garza, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, tio (uncle), cousin and friend. Fernando peacefully departed from this world on April 18, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Fernando was born on November 1, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Cecilio B. and Carmen C. De La Garza. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dear sister, Corina (Nicho) Gutierrez and his brother-in-law, Joe Viera. His memory lives on through his devoted wife, Consuelo De La Garza, and their four children: Fernando (Jill) De La Garza, Sylvia Ann (Allen) Nace, Celestina (Javier) Hidalgo, and Jesus Ramon (Vanessa) De La Garza. Fernando's pride and joy were his ten grandchildren: Emily and Eric De La Garza; Kendall, Kody, Kolton, and Kameron Nace; Martina, Alejandro Fernando, and Isadora Hidalgo; and Apolonia De La Garza who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.

In addition to his immediate family, Fernando is survived by his siblings Carmen Viera, Irma (Joe) Vela, Alma (Pete) Salas, Cecilia (Martin) Faulkner, Cecilio (Margaret) De La Garza, and Michaela (Ray Esparza) Rivera, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were deeply cherished by him.

He was a 1967 graduate of Fox Tech High School, he worked at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for over 38 years, and he was a parishioner of St. Timothy's Church for over 40 years. Fernando had a passion for taking his family on vacations from Alaska to Florida, from New York to California and everything in between. He was often found on the road during the summer. He especially loved his 3-week Rome trip he took with his loving wife in 2019. He actively participated in his grandchildren's lives, often attending their school events, sports games, and taking them on trips. He would also insist on being the first in line to pick up his grandchildren after school, which meant sometimes waiting two hours before the start of dismissal. He was a great cook, and loved to barbecue for family and friends and was known for his delicious brisket, ribs, and fajitas. He was an exceptional dancer and loved to dance conjunto, tex-mex, polkas and the oldies.

As a husband and father, he will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He was a pillar of strength, fiercely protective and endlessly supportive, embodying the true essence of love and loyalty. He is deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In his honor, let us celebrate his remarkable life and the profound impact he had on all who crossed his path.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary.

Dad, as we come to nearly the first month of your passing, it´s become more real for all of us that you won´t ever be back home, at the next family event, birthday party, graduation and more. We miss you so much. I love you- thank you for being the kind of man that would do anything for their family. I wish you were here so I could hug you just one last time and tell you that I love you.
