Fred was a great gentleman. A true professional. When I played golf with him, he was focused on his game, but still had fun. I know that he will be missed by all his friend, family, and his legion of fans who depended on him day in and day out for the News. Make a lot of birdies up there, and rest in peace.

Years ago, I worked with a friend of Fred, Mark Lucas he was my boss at work. When I learned he was a personnel friend of Mr. Lazano, and my wife watched him every day deliver the news on channel 5, for he was her favorite newscaster. I asked Mark for his autograph. The next day at work, he gave me a piece of paper with Fred's name, with a personnel note to her which he wrote the night before at dinner. My wife still has that signed autograph, after nearly 20 years. Rest in peace Fred Lozano, you will be missed.

After all those years of watching him do the noon news on KENS-TV, which he did with such calm aplomb, unflappable steadiness, unvarying pleasantness, and complete professionalism, it was like losing an old friend to learn that Fred Lozano was gone, all the more so given the rapidity with which local TV anchors seem to show up and then disappear with nary a ripple left behind them. Not so here. Enough cannot be said for someone who inspires confidence and provokes a desire to watch, viewers knowing that they are not likely ever to be unpleasantly surprised by such a one. I may never have met him, but I certainly "met" Fred, who has left very large ripples. Requiescat in pace.
