I'm so sorry to hear about Gary's passing, although I hadn't seen him after Rice, I remember him as being the best natured person in our class, so very well liked, and so brilliant and admired. It was a shame that Rice didn't choose Gary's design for the Music School rather than what was later built, he won the Watkin award for his design, and proved his great talent for architecture at a very young age.

I just became aware of his loss. I knew him most from birth through childhood. Our moms were friends even before they were married. My brother Tim and I remember family picnics with Gary, David and John in Landa Park in New Braunfels, TX where we biked, swam, and rode the kiddie train. More recently, Ann and I have kept up our family friendship. She tells me about her dear grandchildren, both nearby and in Paris.

I too just learned of Gary's untimely death in the Rice Owlmanac. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved him. My favorite memory of Gary from architecture studio was his rendering of a building elevation with a dog in it. He was delighted to point out in the building section a small dot that represented the section through the dog's tail. Funny fellow.

My sincere deepest sympathy to the Tschirhart family. I just found out about this terrible loss in the Rice Alumni journal.
Gary was a always a smiling, positive presence around the Architecture School at Rice. He never seemed stressed-out on project deadlines like alot of us typically were. He always had his act together and was a great guy. My thought and prayers are with you. Madeline L. Schmid ,BA 1985 B'arch 1987 Rice U.

I'm so sorry to hear about Gary. Gary lived down the street from my family and we were classmates. He was smart and an exceptionally nice person. My thoughts are with the Tschirhart family during this sad time.

Dear Tschihart Family and daughters, I was very sorry to hear of Gary's passing and send my deepest sympathies to you all. I know he made a great impact, particularly in his field of architecture and am sure his legacy will be felt for many years. I remember in high school, a sweet, funny and kind gentleman who was extremely intelligent and a great athlete. So very glad I had the privilege to know him. May he rest in peace.
