George Millett Obituary

February 18, 1948 - February 20, 2016
Dr. George Van Millett, III, born February 18, 1948 in Ft Knox, Kentucky, passed away on February 20, 2016, at the age of 68 after a long illness . He was preceded in death by his parents Col. George V. Millett, Jr. and Ethel "Sally" Blaine Millett who both served in the US Army during WWII. Van is survived by his loving wife, Ann; sister Nancy Zelenack of Escondido, California; brother William Millett of Clinton, Maryland; son Ryan Millett of Mason Neck, Virginia; daughter Shay Castilla of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to his step-children, Elizabeth Sciba, Carson Petry, Rebecca Shamblin, and especially Sarah Gonzalez for always being there for him.

Following high school in Topeka, Kansas, Dr. Millett attended Washburn University and graduated with majors in History and Art. He joined the US Air Force and
served with honor as a pilot during the Vietnam War flying KC-135 fighter jet refueling planes. After an Honorable discharge from the Air Force, he attended Louisiana State University to study dentistry graduating from LSU in 1983 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He then joined the US Army and furthered his dental training in Periodontics serving in the Army Dental Corps. After retiring as a Lt. Col. from the Army in 1996, he started his private practice as a Periodontist in San Antonio and later, in his spare time, also did contract dentistry for the National Guard.

Always striving to help his patients, Dr Millett possessed a passion for sharing his knowledge of dentistry and health. Being well respected in the community and receiving numerous accolades, his caring nature always touched those he met with his unique sense of humor, humility, integrity and strong work ethic.

After selling his dental practice and becoming semi-retired in 2012, Dr Millett was able to have more time to enjoy life traveling with his wonderful wife, Ann, and continue his hobby of reading about health and history and reminiscing about his favorite old car, a Toyota Supra.

Sincere thanks to the dedicated Nurses and Doctors at SAMMC for all the care and comfort given to him during his difficult journey over the last several years.

Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:00 am.

I am so sorry to find this out. My condolences Anne, may God comfort your heart and be your strength as you endure this sadness and great loss. I did not know Dr. Millett had gone to be with the Lord and you both just crossed my mind this morning when reflecting on my time there with you and all I learned! I left a Google review and after found this page!
I'm so sorry, I didn't know
I hope you are okay, I know what it's like loosing someone so precious, I lost my mother in 2011 and still going through the grief of missing her, still I trust God's timing and get comfort knowing she's in the better place which I'm still waiting to get there!
I Love you and wish you all the best!

My condolences to his love ones. He indeed was a blessing. He was my Periodontist, the very best, I know having gone to several who would not address an issue I was having. He took care of it. His kindness and charity knew no bounds. Later due to a surgery on my back and being out on medical leave from my job, I was at time heavily in debt. Without me ever mentioning it to him he knew somehow, and he never charged me for his excellent services. I will always be very grateful for his help in my time of need. I will never forget his kindness to me.

Ann, I had the opportunity to "meet" him through you. Thank you for sharing his positive energy, his passion to serve and care and the strong trust in God. It could only happen if both of you were in sync. You and your family will always be in my prayers. God bless you.

I will greatly miss my dear old friend with much sadness and sorrow but realize he is now with our Lord. I so enjoyed our visit last Sept. and will remember how wonderful that visit was. I knew Van from being at Topeka High School until the present and we remained "TRUE" friends for over 50 years. Ann, I send you my prayers and thank you for making Van's life so wonderful. Take care always.
