Gordon Bishop Obituary

Gordon Bishop
December 8, 1958 - November 24, 2024
Gordon Joseph Bishop, 65, passed away on November 24th, 2024 at Methodist Surgical Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was born on December 8th, 1958 in Kittery, Maine to a military family. He traveled and lived in many places including Japan, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Montana, Mississippi, California and Texas. Gordon was fascinated by electronics and radio since he was an infant. He was a proud graduate from John Jay High School (Class of 1977) where he pursued his love for electronics. He attended San Antonio College in 1977, where he studied radio broadcasting and worked at a car dealership installing car radios. In 1979 he joined the US Air Force as a Biomedical Engineer, eventually to be stationed in Biloxi, MS. In 1981 he married Rose (also was in the Air Force) and started a family. In 1983 after his sister Lydia passed away, he heard the song "Texas In My Rear View Mirror" by Mac Davis and was inspired to return to his home (San Antonio). After serving four years, Gordon returned to Texas and worked two jobs. One at Murray Electronics and the second with the Methodist Healthcare System. He was the only authorized GE service repair technician in Southeast Texas until Murray Electronics went out of business, where he then continued as a Biomedical Engineering Repair Technician with the Methodist/GE Healthcare System. He assisted in opening up the first cardiac wing and other additions. Gordon's love and care has shown through his work where his meticulous attention to detail was unrivaled and highly regarded by many. Outside of work, he loved to broadcast from his personal "project studio", playing song requests from his wife, family and friends alongside his personal favorites. This instilled a love of music in all of his children. In addition to being a household radio host/DJ he was also a CB/HAM radio operator (Call Sign: N5ZCK (CK)). He had great problem solving skills and mechanical comprehension which had been well demonstrated through his DIY abilities. He loved Star Trek, music, cars and puns. His hobbies and work never took away his ability to be the world's greatest dad to his five children and worlds greatest grandpa to his two grandchildren. He is survived by his mother (Saiko), siblings (Mary (Solange) and David), his wife of 44 years (Rose), his children (Jennifer (Matthew), Karen (Michael), Laura, Bryan, and Alexander) and his grandchildren (Hayden and Brycen); preceded in death by his dad (Ronald) and sister (Lydia). Gordon was a fun, caring and kind hearted person who has touched the hearts of many. He will be missed dearly.

Gordon was my first cousin and we had visited each other while living in New England at our Grandparents Fred and Rose Bishop´s house in Lawrence Mass. I recall his incredible athleticism as we played touch football and frisbee on the Hampton beach and later in Gulfshores with his wife and children. He had a knack for throwing the frisbee out into the sea and the winds blew it right back to him. Not always, but a lot. His laughter and sarcasm were infectious to those around him. I´m sad to hear of his passing but joyful for his memory and reunion with our beloved family and friends in Heaven. I know that I will see him again and join in the family celebrations in the clouds. Love you all whose lives he touched. Michael Martin
