Guadalupe R. Leija

Our beloved father, Guadalupe R. Leija, was called by Our Lord July 11, 2007 at the age of 92. Lupe was born on December 12, 1914. He was a WWII veteran and married, Eduarda Rodriguez at Christ the King Catholic Church on August 6, 1950. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, LaLa and daughters, Magdalena Burney and Anna Monreal. He is survived by five children, David Leija and wife, Maria, Clara Santos and husband, George, Jose Leija, Thomas Leija and wife, Tracy and Katherine Reyes and husband, Juan; sons-in-law, Tom Burney and Jose Monreal; 19 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Atanacio Leija; and many nieces and nephews. He was a hard worker and retired from Kelly AFB after 40 years of civil service. Lupe was a loving and caring father who instilled into his children faith, education and patriotism. He made many sacrifices to ensure his children received a spiritual education at Christ the King Catholic School and beyond to include higher education. He was a great patriarch to his brothers and sisters and his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2007 at Roy Akers-Zizik Kearns Funeral Chapels. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2007 at Christ the King Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery II.
