Hollis Drake Leddy was born September 16,1949 in San Angelo, Texas to Nancy Drake Leddy and Hollis Harold Leddy. Drake's childhood stories usually included porch talks with grandmother, Mildred, farm visits and dominoes with grandfather, Otho, boot shop jobs at M. L. Leddy & Sons Boots and Saddles, family vacations and cowboy polo trips with beloved sister, Ellen, partnership golf tournaments with his dad, delicious family dinners prepared by his mom and neighborhood adventures with cousins and friends.
After graduating from San Angelo Central High School, at Mildred's urging, Drake left west Texas to attend Washington and Lee University (W&L) in Virginia. There, Drake met lifelong friends, the 1971 Sigma Nu's, who have remained close and have enjoyed many reunions together over the past 50 years.
Also, at W&L, Drake met his lifelong sweetheart, Charlotte Owens. They married in 1971 shortly after graduating from W&L and beginning law school at the University of Texas. First son, Walter, was born in 1973, one month before Drake's law school graduation. The young family moved to Houston where Drake went to work for Arthur Andersen and Co. It was an exciting five years there with the birth of daughter, Hollis, and son, Charles.
Drake's career blossomed in 1978 when Arthur Andersen moved the family to San Antonio where Drake became partner at the newly opened office. What a wonderful new home! To everyone's delight, son, Stanton, was born during Fiesta 1982. All four children enjoyed Drake's encouragement and support at their many activities. How proud Drake was of the loving, caring daughter and sons they were!
Drake loved entertaining family and friends at the Kingsland lake house watching fireworks and enjoying water sports while wearing the most colorful outfits. He was also thankful for his friendships at Thursday morning Bible Study at First Presbyterian, BBFF, Oak Hills Country Club, Governor's Club and The Argyle.
Drake loved his career at Arthur Andersen, as president of USAA Real Estate and founder and CEO of the Leddy Company and Presidian. He always was thankful to work with so many talented people on so many exciting projects. A constant through it all was his CFO, Jeanette Mosley, an indispensable partner and loyal friend.
Drake's happiness overflowed with the marriage of his children to such delightful spouses. Between 2004 and 2017, Drake welcomed his 11 grandchildren who he absolutely adored beyond words. His Santa Claus act and HOHOHO will be shared through the generations.
Adding to his full life, Charlotte and Drake loved to travel with Drake planning the adventures to many parts of the world. He also delighted in family trips from tent camping to exploring Times Square.
Drake is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Leddy; his children and their spouses, Walter and Brooke Leddy, Hollis and Brian Owens, Charles and Kelly Leddy, Stanton and Melissa Leddy; grandchildren, Hollis, Emory, Paschal, Charlotte, Lawrence, Emily, Leddy, Drake, Anderson, Grace and Anna; sister and her husband, Ellen and Mike Brandenberger; Lelia and Charley Bankston, Blair Mims and many other loving and caring family members and close friends.
