Imelda Alvarez, "Mel", born in El Paso, TX to Juan and Manuela (Monroy) Alvarez. She died at home surrounded by her family. The cause was cancer. She is survived by her brothers Javier, Juan, and Rene, her niece Sarah and nephew Elliot and her great nieces and nephews, Marianna, Emmanuel, Ione, Quincy and Levi. She was a deeply beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and godmother. A generous spirit, she was full of love and had an easy and joyful laugh. The youngest in her family she was nevertheless the caretaker, a task that took energy and grace and to which she was dedicated. Mel was impeccable in so much of what she did, the gifts she chose for people, the food she made, and the way she dressed. She was a reader of classics and a fan of science fiction. A natural ambassador to her own city, she should have had more of a chance to see the world and travel to the places she longed to go. A lover of fashion Mel worked in retail for her entire career, holding management positions in several stores in and around San Antonio. She was a graduate of Incarnate Word University. Mel was a conscientious and hardworking colleague and supervisor, appreciated by those who worked with her and a likely bright spot for some of the many thousands of people she met for only a few minutes. She will be deeply missed but always remembered with love and gratitude. Arrangements with
