James Wright Obituary

Born in the west Texas town of Alpine, Jim's parents were Dr. Joel E. Wright and Onie May Wright. He was the oldest of 5 children and is survived by his siblings Betsey Wright, Joe Wright, Ben Wright, and Esther Wright Emery.
He was married to Marilyn Brietzke Wright for 55 years. She preceded him in 2023. Their daughter, Laurette Bailey Krumm, preceded them both. He is survived by their daughter Marianne Bailey Willms and her husband, Gordon. He had 4 granddaughters: Heather Ann Willms, Amanda Marilyn Barrett and husband Chad, Olivia Laurette Willms, and Michaela May Sonke and husband Scott. He had 4 great-grandchildren: Sophia Kay Barrett, Henry James Barrett, Amelia Marilyn Sonke, and Everett David Sonke.
A graduate of Alpine High School class of 1959, he continued his education at Sul Ross State College and at the University of Texas in Austin where he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He was an Air Force veteran serving in the Strategic Missile Squadron as a Missile Launch Officer.
Jim's professional life was dedicated to the banking industry in San Antonio, Texas including National Bank of Commerce, Resolution Trust Corporation, and Wells Fargo Bank.
He enthusiastically embraced a hobby as an amateur radio operator from the age of 16, using his skills to aid others as an Emergency Responder for the American Red Cross. He was a 40-year member of the American Legion.
Funeral service: Saturday February 7 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church 9944 Leslie Road, San Antonio, TX 78254. Military Honors and burial will be immediately after the service at Zion Lutheran Cemetery adjacent to the church.
