Janice Hammon Obituary

February 14, 1935 - May 21, 2015
Janice Lynn Beeson Hammon went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2015. She was born February 14, 1935 in Lovelady, TX to H.W. and Nova Dene Beeson. She graduated from Lockhart High School in 1953 and attended Mary Hardin Baylor. She met her future husband, Gary Hammon on a blind date while in college; he was in the Army at Fort Hood in Killeen. They had three loving children and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary next month. Janice loved serving others and it showed in the activities she participated in starting in Austin, TX: PTA President at Pecan Springs Elementary School; High School Girls' Sunday School Teacher at Hyde Park Baptist Church; church nursery worker (holding & loving babies); foster mother to infants (she really loved babies); and donated her time at the Old Bakery. Then later after moving to San Antonio, TX with her husband she was a prayer warrior in the Prayer Room at Trinity Baptist Church; served missionaries during a mission trip to Prague; and volunteered at 4th Street Café (run by First Baptist Church). She loved family and friends, and enjoyed life. Whether it was creating birthday celebrations, cooking delicious meals, decorating her home and her children's homes, hosting parties, sewing, learning to water ski in her late 30's, helping her grown children in any capacity or enjoying activities with her grand kids, she made life more fun. She enjoyed her career which included: Secretary for Navion Aircraft in Galveston as well as one of their models; Secretary for a Representative at the Austin State Capital for a couple of sessions; worked for Lewis Timberlake at Decision Dynamics, he was a wonderful speaker; Membership Officer for Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT), where she met some of her closest friends; Executive Secretary for the President at Satelco. She was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2013. Her sweet attitude and precious spirit made her a favorite among staff she came in contact with. Heart to Heart Hospice provided not only superb care but emotional support during her illness; especially Jamie Keyser. Her final few days were in the loving care of Rodica Bata, she was truly a gift from God to not only Janice but the family as well. Rodica is a true servant and a blessing to those who know her. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Gary Flynn. She is survived by her husband, Gary Hammon; three children, Cheryl Johnston (John Johnston) of Lorena, TX; David Hammon (Lezli Hammon) of Pensacola, FL; Holly Hammon (Doug Barth) of San Antonio, TX; as well as three grandchildren: Emily Hammon, Tyler Hammon and Davis Johnston; her sister Nelda Beeson Moran (Jim Moran) and her niece and nephew, Melinda Vaughn (John Vaughn) and David Moran (Michelle Moran).

Gary, Holly, Cheryl, and David, my thoughts go to happier days when we were younger, healthy and carefree... "Mom" has gone back to that place and thankfully, as Christians we KNOW we will see her there again one day. I am thankful that we all grew up together in school and church so that I have my own special memories of her. She was a beautiful, funny true lady, in every sense of the word, who I have always admired and even to the end put her children first as always. Prayers and love to all of you.
