Jeanne Curtis Obituary

CURTIS
Colonel Jeanne L. Curtis, USAF NC Ret. of San Antonio was born Nov. 14, 1927 in Prescott, AZ and died April 17, 2011 at the age of 83 years. She attended parochial and public Schools in Prescott Az. and received her basic nursing training at San Diego County General Hospital, her BA at San Diego State and her Masters from the University of North Carolina. She entered the Air Force in 1959 and served two years at Chanute AFB, IL, separated to practice in civilian life, then reentered the Air Force in 1962. She was assigned to such locations as Eielson AFB; McGuire AFB, NJ; Tachikawa AB, Japan; Brooks AFB, TX; Athens, Greece; and Sheppard AFB, TX. Her duties involved such jobs as flight nursing, staff nursing, chief nurse, Research and Development of Aeromedical Equipment, and writing of training manuals, etc. After retirement she was a founding member of the Society of Retired Air Force Nurses, and engaged in multiple community activities such as Southeast Highland Hills Good Neighbor Crime Watch and Southeast Community Outreach for Older People. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred George Curtis and Gertrude Kerstein Curtis, her brother Robert G. Curtis and her nephew Robert W. Curtis. She is survived by her sister-in-law Erna L. Curtis, niece Cathy M. Binder (Bob), great-nephews Gary Curtis and Chad Binder, and great-nieces Amanda Curtis and Caryn Binder. Jeanne requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Southeast Community Outreach for Older People, 1602 Goliad Rd., #B, San Antonio TX. 78223 or Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc., 137 Earl St., San Antonio, TX. 78212. A memorial service will be held Friday, 29 April 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 5718 Pecan Valley Dr., San Antonio, TX 78223, Reception to follow in Church Hall.
