Jo Wilgodsky Obituary

April 20, 1924 - July 31, 2015
Jo Ann Pincus Wigodsky passed away peacefully on July 31. She was 91. She was the daughter of Mary Epstein Pincus and David Lee Pincus. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Herman Wigodsky, in 2005.

Jo Ann is survived by her daughter, Dr. Ann Wigodsky, her two sons, John Wigodsky (Mary Lynn) and Dan Wigodsky (Mary), three granddaughters (Andie, Ellie, Iris), and three great grandchildren.

Jo Ann lived for over 85 years in one of the earliest homes built in Olmos Park. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School. She graduated from Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans during World War II and remained a loyal alumna.

Jo Ann will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, as well as an active community volunteer. In the 1950's she was instrumental in founding a preschool for blind children, the Happy Hour School, when there were no other options for blind children. She later became active in the arts community, including serving the San Antonio Art Institute as a Board member. Jo Ann continued to study art, and became known for her handmade paper objects which were exhibited in several galleries.

Additionally, Jo Ann served as a Board member of Planned Parenthood and the Friends of Hospice. She was a lifelong member of Temple Beth-El.

A private graveside service is planned.

Memorial donations may be made to the McNay Art Museum, Planned Parenthood, the Jo Ann Wigodsky Memorial Traveling Fellowship at Trinity University, or the charity of your choice.
