John Cuellar Obituary

John Patrick Cuellar, Jr. born in San Antonio on April 4, 1933, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents John P. Cuellar and Anna Mae Allen Cuellar. He is survived by three sons: Dr. John P. Cuellar, III, and wife Judy of Asheville, NC, C. Tucker Cuellar and wife Mary of New Braunfels, and Geoffrey P. Cuellar of Albuquerque. Pat was a high honor graduate of Central Catholic High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from St. Mary's University. He spent his entire professional career at Southwest Research Institute, retiring in 1991. His retirement plaque reads For thirty-five years of technical and project leadership in advanced aviation fuels and lubricants. His work provided insight into evaluation methodology and into the interrelationship of these fluids to turbine engine performance, bringing broad recognition to the institute, signed by President Martin Goland. Highlights of his career include over seventy-five technical publications in his field; a US Patent for a preservative lubricant; past president of the Southwest Chapter of the Research Society of America; and leader or member of various panels of the Aviation Committee of the Coordinating Research Council, and advisory group to government and industry. Although an alumnus of Central Catholic, he had many good friends who had attended Brackenridge High School, especially in the classes of 1951 and 1952. Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, July 26, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow at San Fernando Cemetery No. 3. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Peter - St. Joseph's Children's Home. Condolences may be sent to the Cuellar family at www.theangelusfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by: Angelus Funeral Home.
