JOHN CARL (JC) STROMBERGER
August 6, 1940 - December 5, 2024
John Carl (JC) Stromberger was born August 6, 1940, in San Antonio, TX and died on December 5, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Carl Stromberger. JC is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Eleanor, by their son, Scott (Amber), and by his two grandchildren, Adrianna and August Stromberger. He is also survived by his two sisters, Karen Miller and Lee Alvoid (Dennis), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
JC, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, graduated from Jefferson High School, San Antonio, and the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA and a LLB. He was a member of the San Antonio and Texas Bar Associations for 60+ years. He was also a member of Conopus Club. JC was the last surviving member of the group that founded Texas Public Radio, where he combined his love of music and his legal knowledge.
A man of many talents, JC was an accomplished clarinetist and chorister, singing in church and community choirs for many years. His professional career included the private practice of law and corporate counsel; he was an escrow officer for Alamo Tittle; and the Executive Director of Lifetime Recovery. His military service was in the Army JAG corps.
JC was an active and long-time member of Christ Episcopal Church and the Recovery Ministries Commission of the Diocese of West Texas. He was a person of long-term recovery who was able to aid many people to gain and maintain lives of sobriety. JC felt that his service at Lifetime recovery was the most fulfilling part of his long career. He especially enjoyed interacting with the clients there, sharing his own experience, strength and hope that he found in his recovery of 46 years.
In addition to all the time JC spent in service to others, he also had a very creative and playful side – he was an avid reader, so it is no wonder that he became a formidable champion at Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit as well as a great dancer. He so enjoyed being and playing with his grandchildren. JC also truly enjoyed trips with Eleanor to West Texas, and to Door County in Wisconsin, exploring the great outdoors in two very different parts of the country.
The family is grateful for the care given to JC by Morningside Manor and Blue Skies of TX Hospice.
