Jose Rios Obituary

December 11, 1948 - January 28, 2015
Jose Guadalupe Rios was born on December 11, 1948 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila Mexico. He passed away peacefully at the age of 66 on January 28, 2015 at 3:14 p.m. while surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Jose was a beloved son, husband, father and grandfather and will forever be missed by all his family and his friends. Jose attended Sidney Lanier High School where he enjoyed being a member of the R.O.T.C. Jose also received an Associate degree in Applied Science from St Phillips College. Jose married his high school sweetheart Alicia Garcia on May 24, 1970. Together, Jose and Alicia enjoyed 44 years of marriage and had a family of three which included 2 sons, a daughter, and 8 grandchildren. Jose proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he belonged to the 5th Battalion (Hawk) 57th Air Defense Artillery. He later was a Motor Pool Sergeant in the 340th Army Reserve. Jose also enjoyed being a member of the Herradura De Plata Charros Association. Jose was a true professional retiring from VIA Metropolitan Transit after 30 years. While working at VIA Jose was also a Shop Steward for the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 694. Jose was a member of South Memorial Christian Church where he enjoyed beautifying the church grounds and building. Jose enjoyed collecting antique toys and was a member of the San Antonio Toy Club. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose Baltazar Rios and Sophia Hernandez de Rios. He is survived by his beloved wife Alicia G. Rios, and children; Jose G. Rios, Jr., Daniel Arturo Rios, Laura A. Quintana and husband Robert; adored grandchildren: Destiny Rae Rios, Gabriella Zalyza Rios, Faith Danielle Rios, Robert "Bo" Anthony Quintana, Nathaniel Joseph Rios, Alexis Medea Quintana, Julia Ann Rios, and Kayden Reese Rios. He is also survived by his siblings: Luis Rios, Alejandro Rios, Sonia Correa, Ruben Rios, Carmen Tonche, Rosa Martinez, Josefina Rios, and Antonio Rios, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will begin on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Gerald & Elizabeth Ortega are so, sorry to hear about your loss. Mr. Joe, was a very thoughtful and wonderful person. I will never forget the great times and the pleasure I had working together and having him as a boss and dear friend. My wife and myself also remember when we celebrated your 25th Wedding Anniversary, and had a great time. He will dearly be missed by all the hearts he touched. RIP! It seems like only yesterday I saw you and we talked about our years working at Via, and being former classmates at Lanier.
