Joseph Dawson Obituary

Joseph M. Dawson, Jr., son of Joseph M. Dawson and Virginia Hendrix Dawson, died January 29, 2023, in San Antonio. He was born in San Antonio on November 13, 1935.

After graduating from Alamo Heights High School, Joe attended The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and completed his education at the University of Texas in Austin in engineering. He became the successful business owner of Bexar Insulation Company with locations in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley.

To know Joe, one knew he loved his family foremost and then in no particular order or combination he loved hunting and fishing, black labs, the Texas Coast and Hill Country, single malt scotch, fine red wines, travels almost anywhere, card and domino games of skill with his good friends, Linda Ronstadt and Frank Sinatra, great jazz, and pie, whether it be cherry or key lime. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved helping his children and grandchildren experience the wildlife of Texas.

Joe was married to Karen Dawson for twenty-four loving years and previously to Alice Kelly.

He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Brown (Jeffrey), Susan Dawson (Kenneth Mannas), and Blair Kaiser (Jonathan McCreary); sister, Dorothy Burlage; grandchildren, Haley Brown Cason (Paul), Virginia Brown Holmes (David), Jeffrey Joseph Brown (Lauren), Clark Mannas, Adriene Mannas, and Brayden Baker; and 9 great-grandchildren.

We will miss and love him always.

When I was a little girl, I lived across the street from the Dawson home on Rosemary in Alamo Heights. I was 5 years old and was "in love" with Joe. He was 21! I asked him to wait for me to grow up to marry him. He smiled and gave me a big hug. I never saw him again after he moved as the home was sold and his mom Virginia moved to a smaller home.
Virginia worked long hours and owned an old English Springer Spaniel named Cocoa. Cocoa would come to our home and spend all day with me. So one day Virginia brought her food bowl, leashes etc over to me and told me that since Cocoa loved me, and she worked so much that she was giving Cocoa to me so she could get all the love she deserved. Because of her, she ignited my passion for dogs....which I have never been without my entire life. My love for the Dawson family has lasted a lifetime. Their kindness and love was a seed planted.......
I know Joe is in Heaven with his Mom and loved ones gone before him.
My condolences to his family and friends.
Prayers for comfort and healing

I´ve always cherished this photo of Cocoa and I
