Joseph Parker Obituary

PARKER
Joseph Bright Parker passed away April 14, 2009. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, January 28, 1922, one of five sons of George and Margarite (Bright) Parker. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry J. Parker, II, George Parker, Jr. and John Meredith Parker. He attended Tulsa public schools prior to graduating from Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. and Princeton University. Joseph entered the Navy in 1943 and served as a naval officer in the Naval Amphibious Forces in New Guinea and other Pacific areas. Upon discharge, he entered the Petroleum Engineering School of the University of Texas. After graduating, he was employed as a drilling and production engineer in South Louisiana until 1960, when he joined the family oil business in San Antonio, Texas. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Anne Chittim Parker; a daughter, Margarite Parker Guggolz and her husband Thomas Irwin Guggolz; and a son, Joseph Bright Parker and his wife Chrysanthe Lambros Parker. He leaves behind five grandchildren, James Chittim Parker and his wife Valerie, Virginia Parker, Cullen Bright Parker, Eloise Elisabeth Guggolz and Hal Joseph Guggolz; and one great-grandson, Harrison Chittim Parker. He is also survived by his brother, William Alfred Parker and his wife Camillia Mueller Parker; his sisters-in-law, Mary Olivia Handy Parker and Dorothea Chittim Oppenheimer; and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, The Argyle, San Antonio Country Club, Club Giraud, the Texas Cavaliers, the Order of the Alamo and the San Antonio German Club. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the kind and capable care given by Dr's Mark Isaeff and Gary Songco, the nurses and staff at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital and the Christus VNA Hospice Inpatient care. TO FOLLOW
The Rev. Jonathan Wickham and The Rev. Raymond E. Judd, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be Joseph Bright Parker, Jr., Thomas Irwin Guggolz, Hal Joseph Guggolz, James Chittim Parker, Cullen Bright Parker, Andrew Kelly and Friedrich Hanau. It is requested that any memorials by friends so desiring be donated to the charities of their choice. Interment will be private.

We just heard the news of Mr. Parker's passing and want you to know that we are thinking of you today. We always enjoyed having the Parkers as guests at the Wianno Club and have missed seeing them over the past few years. On behalf of our members and staff, please accept our heartfelt condolences.
