Juan Saldaña Obituary

Juan Angel Saldaña, Sr., 83, passed away on January 28, 2005 in San Marcos, Texas. He was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. Mr. Saldaña graduated from Martin High School in 1940 and was also a graduate of Texas A&M College Station in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Juan was a Registered Professional Engineer and an accomplished Professional Structural Engineer who contributed to the design of several commercial projects including the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio; the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston; the Alaska Oil Pipeline; and community complexes in Saudi Arabia. In the early 1980's Juan founded his own consulting engineering company, Saldaña Structural. Over the next 20 years, he designed many school, church and community facilities throughout South Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel S. Saldaña and Antonia Garcia Saldaña; his son, Juan Angel Saldaña, Jr.; his brothers and sisters, Ernestina Saldaña (Francisco J.) Flores, Miguel Saldaña, Oscar M. Saldaña, and Manuel Ramiro Saldaña. He is survived by his wife Blasita G. Saldaña of San Marcos; children, Elsa (Nasrat) Raouf of Sierra Madre, California, Daniel Saldaña of California, Diana (Rick) Goldgar of Austin, Texas; his granddaughter, Sarah Goldgar of Austin; his brothers and sisters, Irene Saldaña, Graciela S. Hernandez, Francisco J. (Naomi) Saldaña, and Hector A. (Lorraine) Saldaña; sisters-in-law, Josefina P. Saldaña and Enriqueta V. Saldaña. Also surviving numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives. A rosary was recited Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Thomason Funeral Home Chapel in San Marcos, Texas. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Chapel Service was held Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomason Funeral Home. Interment followed in the family plot of the San Marcos City Cemetery in San Marcos, Texas. Pallbearers were his nephews, Dr. Miguel Saldaña, Dr. J.A. "Tony'' Saldaña, Francisco J. Flores, Jr., Dr. Carlos Saldaña, Frank J. Saldaña, Jr., Jesse G. Hernandez, Dr. Luis Saldaña, and Hector A. Saldaña, Jr. HILLSIDE FUNERAL HOME Laredo, TX 78041 (956) 724-6060
