Kathryn Adeline McBride, wife of General William V. McBride, USAF (Retired), well known among the retired military community, has died in San Antonio at the age of 98.
She was born and raised on a small farm in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Peter Solsberg and Cora Hennon Solsberg, both deceased. She received her public education in Chewton, Pa and Ellwood City, PA and her advanced education was interrupted because of World War Il. During the war, like many, she worked in a defense factory. She married her husband during the war, became a devoted Air Force wife, and was in many ways responsible for his military success and eventual promotion to four star rank. She took great personal pride in the supporting role she played in the military as she set an example on how to be a helpful and loyal Air Force wife. During her husband's military service of over thirty-six years, she moved thirty-one times -- and, among other places, lived in Okinawa, Philippines and Germany. After her husband retired from the Air Force in Washington, DC in 1978, they moved to San Antonio -- a city she loved. Among other public service experiences, she served as Vice Chairman and Director of the Air Force Village Foundation. She was an avid golfer who loved the game. She was known as a friendly, warm person who always had an engaging smile and possessed the gift of being a great hostess. She embraced life and brought incredible warmth and joy to many who thought she epitomized everything that was good. Among her many contributions, during assignments in Washington, DC, she proudly served as an Arlington Lady at the Arlington National Cemetery. Her close friends knew her as a person with an abundance of common sense and willing to share her experiences. Her family knew her as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother with great personal style and expert shopping instincts.
Married for 76 years, she is survived by her husband. They have one daughter, Kathy Davis, who is married to Don Davis of Hoover, AL. Additionally she is survived by two granddaughters, Lisa Davis Bunn and Jennifer Davis Smith; and two grandsons-in-law, Stephen Bunn of Vestavia Hills, AL and Sean Smith of Alpharetta, GA. She also had four great grandchildren - Davis William Bunn, Walker Lewis Bunn, Collin McLain Smith and Kathryn Adeline Smith.
Contributions instead of flowers can be made to Air Force Villages Foundation.

Bill and Sylvia send their condolences and prayers to General Wm McBride (USAF- retired) and family upon hearing of Kathryn´s recent death. I read during her marriage of 76 years she raised a family and moved all 31 times in support of her husband´s military career. This speaks to the strong strength of character, determination, commitment and organizational ability of Kathryn. She was serving her country as well as supporting her husband. God Bless you Kathryn may you rest in peace.
