Lance Engel Obituary

ENGEL
Lance Engel, born December 30, 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away May 11, 2009, in San Antonio, at the age of 34. He was a wonderfully loving husband, dad and son, and was also devoted to his family. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. However, Lance especially loved Southeast Conference Football. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1996. He will truly be missed by all who loved and knew him. Lance is survived by his loving wife, Christy Engel; cherished son, Xander Engel; parents, Earl and Gail Engel; parents-in-law, Filix and Diane Austin; grandfather, Houston R. Wheeler; aunts, Meredith Wheeler and Squeeky Luce; and beloved pet, Max. The family will begin receiving friends at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Mr. and Mrs. Engel, I was overwhelmed with grief when I heard this news. Lance and I had many great times on and off the football field there in Greensboro, especially when we made it to the State Championship game during the 1989-1990 school year (my senior year). We also had a lot of fun when we worked together on the weekends there at Reynolds Plantation too. His dedication towards everything he did was an inspiration to us all. My deepest sympathies go out to you and his family.

Mr and Mrs. Engle my heart goes out to you. It was just the other day I was thinking about Lance and the times we had riding together from practice everyday. I must say; although we all have gone our seperate ways and lost contact, I still think of you all. You all treated me so good that I felt like I was apart of the family. Gail & Earl,
I was absolutely aghast at hearing of your tragic news about Lance. I empathize with your devastating pain, as I too have sons, one of whom was born the same year as Lance and who also shares many of the same wonderful traits, love, and promise. Please know that all our thoughts and prayers are with you for God to grant you the guidance and strength you need. One of my favorite prayers ever I share with you:

ENGEL I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT LANCE'S PASSING.WHEN I WAS TOLD BY MY MOTHER ABOUT HIS PASSING I THOUGHT SHE HAD THE NAME WRONG BUT OTHER CLASSMATES OF THE 1993 CONFIRMED THE INFORMATION FOR ME. LANCE WAS A GREAT YOUNG MAN IN HIGH SCHOOL WHO I HAD MANY GOOD TIMES AND LAUGHS WITH THROUGHOUT OUR HIGH SCHOOL YEARS. MRS. ENGEL YOU WERE ONE OF THE TEACHERS THAT MADE ME LOVE COMING TO SCHOOL AND I SO ADMIRED THE RELATIONSHIP YOU AND LANCE SHARED. Trey Rhodes called me last night and told me about Lance. Im so sorry to hear that this has happened. Lance and your family ment so much to me growing up and I can not express in words how sorry I am for your loss. Life and work have taken me away from Greensboro, but not a day goes by that I don't think back and talk to my wife about what a wonderful time I had there. Im so very sorry that I lost touch over the years, but the Engel family has influenced my life and helped make me the person I've become today.
