Larry Lamar Lanning

CMSgt Larry Lamar Lanning, USAF (Retired), peacefully entered the Haven of Rest on Thursday, March 4, 2004, after a multi-year battle with Lewy's Body Dementia. Larry, 63, is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathryn Eve Lanning; two sons, Stephen Allen Lanning of San Antonio and Robert Owen Lanning of Cibolo; mother, Ethel Lanning of Florida; three sisters, three brothers; two grandchildren, Timothy Prescott and Sarah Grace Lanning; three step-grandchildren, Joey, Jonathan, and Sydney Herrera. CMSgt Lanning's military service of 23-1/2 years spanned 1959 to 1983 and included tours of duty in Pakistan, Vietnam, Germany, England, and stateside. He retired with an honorable discharge in 1983 after his final tour of duty at Randolph AFB's Military Personnel Center. After retirement from the Air Force, Larry faithfully served the Lord full-time as Military Pastor, Financial Minister, Christian School Teacher, and School Principal at Town East Baptist Church in San Antonio and Calvary Baptist Church in New Braunfels. During this time, he also served his fellow military brethren as lay chaplain at Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center. He retired from the ministry in 1995 due to the onset of Lewy's Body Dementia. From 1995 until his passing, his family served him as faithfully as he served his country and his Lord. His final moments were spent with his wife, two sons, and their wives at his side. Funeral Services will he held at Schertz Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 9, 2004. A time for Visitation will be from 8:00 A.M. until Noon, with the Funeral Service commencing at Noon. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Larry's ministry of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the globe, the family has requested that donations be made to the Bible and Gospel Tract Fund of the Cibolo Valley Baptist Church, 5500 FM 1103, Cibolo TX, 78108.
