Lillian Hennessy passed away peacefully at her home on August 27, 2021. She was known as "Billie" by both family and friends. Born in Carroll, Iowa December 21, 1929 to William Paul Welch and Mary Elizabeth Pape, she grew up in Des Moines, Iowa graduated from the University of Iowa where she met the love of her life John Edward Hennessy. They were married on May 30, 1953. She spent the next 15 years as a military spouse and mother traveling and living abroad, and then moving state side. When her husband retired from the Air Force, she resumed her career as an English teacher at Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, TX. She spent 20 years teaching advanced English classes for all four levels in high school.

Billie loved the English language was a "word smith". Daily she would complete the crossword puzzle and word scramble in the San Antonio Express-News, on Sunday she completed the New York Times crossword puzzle. She belonged to the Windcrest Golf Club when she enjoyed playing golf for many years. She held 4 "hole in one" certificates on this course. Together with her husband "Ed", she traveled extensively in their recreational vehicle throughout North America visiting numerous national parks and forests.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen and husband Steve Mangold, Mimi and her husband Kevin Asher, Jim and Lori Hennessy, Mike (deceased) and wife Rhonda Ray. She was a loving grandmother to Eric (deceased), David, Ryan (deceased), and Corey Mangold, Kelly Hernandez and Evan Asher, Blaine and Riley Hennessy.

Visitation will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m., Friday September 24, 2021 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, at 6680 Crestway, San Antonio, TX 78239. Internment will follow at Fort Sam National Cemetery. Open house to follow at her home.
