LINDA MCSWEEN Obituary

Linda Lewis McSween passed away peacefully on August 22nd at her home surrounded by her four children who loved her dearly. She was born January 2, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas to Andrew Jackson Lewis and Grace McNamara Lewis. Linda attended Alamo Heights Schools, Sweet Briar College and graduated from the University of Texas in 1961, with a B.A. degree in English and where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. In 1963 Linda married the love of her life, Paul McSween Jr. They had a rich and happy life together for 55 years until his passing. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and most recently great grandmother, known as TuTu to her grandchildren. She volunteered in the community through organizations including Junior League, The Battle of Flowers Association, and the Charity Ball. She also served on the board of directors of Jefferson Bank. She was a devoted longtime member and loved Christ Episcopal Church. Linda's happiest times were spent with family in the Texas hill country, and at the Texas coast making memories with friends and family. She and Paul also enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe and Africa. She loved enjoying time with her 13 grandchildren, specifically attending their sporting events as well as family gatherings in the back yard. She knew how to have a good time and was as comfortable in jeans and cowboy boots as a ball gown and dancing shoes. And boy could she and Paul dance. Some of her favorite things (in no particular order) were, chocolate, Scarlett O'Hara, dancing, red cars, Shakespeare, The Wall Street Journal, professional tennis, The Sounds of Music, famous Grouse (but never before 6), Frank Sinatra, fiesta, girls trips to NYC, red roses, westerns, Jeopardy!, theater, full moons, sunsets, red lips (at all times), bluebonnets and her children and grandchildren. She was loving, selfless, loyal and entirely devoted to her friends and family, always putting her family above all else. She was smart, clever, witty and fun. Anyone who knew her is better for it, and she leaves the world a better place. Linda is survived by her four children and their spouses, Paul Everette McSween III & his wife, Sarah; Linda McSween Satel & her husband, Joey; Julie McSween Zacher & her husband, Peter; Jennifer McSween Canavan & her husband, Crain; and thirteen grandchildren: Paul E. McSween IV (Rett) & his wife Samantha, Thomas DuBose McSween & his wife Caroline, Benjamin Lewis McSween, Katherine Ann Satel, Emily Grace Satel, Caroline McSween Satel, Joseph Steven Satel, Jr., Annabelle McSween Zacher, August Andrew Zacher, Crain McSween Canavan, William Jackson Canavan, Josephine Grace Canavan and Walker Cole Canavan, and a great granddaughter, Lila Grace McSween. She is also survived by many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Richard Spencer Lewis and Jack Lewis Jr.; sister in law, Peggy Lewis; sister in law, Ann McSween Sealy, and her beloved husband, Paul. Linda's family is deeply grateful for the care provided by Rosa Torres, Betsy Medina, Lupita Cerda, Mari Salidivar, and Tina Ezzell, and to Carmen Colmenero, for her many years of dedication, service and friendship to Linda. Services will be private at Christ Episcopal Church. You may watch the livestreaming of her service on Thursday, August 26, 2021, beginning at 10:00 a.m. from this link: https://www.cecsa.org/live-stream. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Richard Spencer Lewis Memorial Foundation, 6015 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209; or Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
