Louie Grantham

Louie Bell "Lou" Ellis Grantham died Saturday, July 11, 2009 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born October 9, 1915 in Cedar Bluff, Mississippi. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to West Point, Mississippi where she spent her childhood. Lou graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi in 1936 with a B. S. Degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in Brookshire, Mississippi until her marriage to Edwin S. Grantham in 1939. Her husband's military career necessitated numerous moves until he entered private practice in Urology in San Antonio in 1957. For many years, Lou was an active member of the Medical Auxiliary, The Daughter's of the King at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Bible Study Fellowship and several volunteer organizations. In her later years, failing health made it necessary for her to move to Baton Rouge, La to be near one of her children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Edwin S. Grantham; her parents, Dr. John Edward Ellis, and Louie Bell Ellis and her sister, Rebecca Ellis. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Giles Rayburn of Houston, Texas; Anne and Ron Zappe of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Grantham of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Grant Rayburn of Houston, Texas; Justin Rayburn and wife, Kelly of Parker, Colorado; Kristin Hopper and husband, Tim of Bloomfield, New Jersey; Eric Zappe and wife, Catherine of Jacksonville, Florida and Michael Grantham of Dallas, Texas and four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Katie and Jack Hopper and Lillian Rayburn.
