Louise Vickers Obituary
Louise (Feuling) Vickers was born December 12, 1913 in New Hampton, Iowa. She passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006 in the Health Care Center at Air Force Village II. She graduated from the School of Commerce, University of Iowa in 1937. She was employed by General Electric, and then by the Knox-Reeves advertising agency in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She met Capt. Vickers who was a test pilot at Wright Field, and they were married September 5, 1946. Their next assignment was in Panama. In August, 1948, there was a revolution in Panama, and a convoy of military police was sent to rescue Louise and her one year old daughter and bring them to safety in the Canal Zone. Vic was in Germany flying in the Berlin Airlift. After Panama, there were three pleasant years in Montgomery, Alabama, followed by Pittsburgh, Dallas and Kelly AFB where Vic retired in 1957. Then the family moved to Newton, Iowa where Vic was an executive at the Maytag Company. They built their dream house and enjoyed that home for 20 years. The three children grew up and 'flew away' to college where they all met their spouses and launched their own careers. These were happy years in a great community of good friends. Louise was active in such pursuits as church, hospital volunteers, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, community theater, foreign exchange students, sailing, and travel not necessarily in that order. Louise loved people especially the little ones, and she always greeted everyone with an automatic and sincere smile. Among her many friends, she was known as a special person. She is survived by her husband, L.D. Vickers; two daughters, Lynne Knapp of Big Canoe, GA, and Gail Froemming of San Antonio, TX; one son, Thomas E. Vickers of Belvedere, CA; two grandsons and two granddaughters; and one great granddaughter. GRAVESIDE SERVICE TUESDAY MARCH 7, 2006 1:00 P.M.
