Lyle Sloan Obituary

SLOAN
Lyle Glen Sloan was born August of 1945 to Purl & Josephine (Loen) Sloan. He grew up in Mentor, MN and graduated from high school in Mentor, NM. He attended Bemidji State University and later joined the Army in 1964. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne and a graduate of Special Forces Training with Honor. Lyle was a career Army enlisted man who served four tours of duty in Vietnam as a Green Beret (Ret. MSG). He was cited for Valor on several occasions and was a "Hatchet Team" Leader based at Ban Me Thuot, Vietnam. He was very proud of his Montagnard Teams who engaged the enemy in more than 100 fire fights. He received the Bronze Star and the Presidential Unit Citation as a member of the Studies and Operations Group (SOG). Lyle served his country as a supreme warrior during the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, the war was never far from his memory. He loved his family, especially his wife, Irene (Kretshmere) Sloan and his two boys, Lyle "Glen" Sloan, Jr. and Jason. Heis preceded in death by hismother, father, former wife, Donna Sloan, and his many veteran friends of the Vietnam conflict. He is a member of the Special Forces Association, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Order of the Sons of Hermann and American Legion. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Luke, Adam, Lily, Josephine and Ian. He loved his grandchildren very much. Full Military Honors will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday, 20 March 2012 at 10:30am. Arrangements are under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home, 14822 Main St., Lytle, TX 78052, (830) 709-0698.
