Maria Wallace Obituary

WALLACE
Maria Baxter Wallace, age 92, of San Antonio, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Maria was born in Vienna, Austria where she lived until she was 28 years old. After World War II, she moved to the United States with her two oldest children and eventually to San Antonio. She loved Texas, and especially the Hill Country. "Oma" was a wonderful cook who baked bread, cookies and wonderful Austrian pastries. Her children always had lots of friends who loved the after school treats hot out of the oven. Her extended family was lucky to have traveled to her Austrian homeland with her. Of the many gifts they are all left with, memories of those journeys with Oma will forever be in their hearts. Oma will be remembered as a loving, active mom, grandmother and friend. Among others, she was a long term Green Door volunteer and member of the Womans Guild of Christ Episcopal Church. She was passionate about her family and friends, and was a compassionate giver to the community. Oma loved walking her beloved dog, Mick and was seen daily walking around Terrell Hills with Mick lagging behind. The family extends their appreciation to the Hamilton House and to Alamo Hospice for their care and support. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Nick Baxter, Jim Baxter and wife Debbie, Peter Baxter and wife Youlinda; grandchildren, Kurt Baxter, Cathy Baxter, Chris Baxter, Greg Baxter, Fielding Baxter and Mia Baxter; great grandson, Hank Baxter.
