Mark Ortega Obituary
Mark Anthony Ortega, 1987 McCollum graduate, born on November 28, 1968 entered the gates of Heaven on September 18, 2011 at the age of 42. Mark had a care free spirit who loved the outdoors and being a "Cowboy". Mark was a kind, generous, loving man with a "Big Heart", always rescuing an animal. Mark was blessed with a beautiful voice; he was a well-known vocalist in the San Antonio music community. Mark was a loving and proud father who loved watching his son grow up, play football and listening to music together. Mark loved and adored his wife and best friend, Edna, she was his true love. We will truly miss Mark. He is now singing with the Angels of Heaven. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary C. Ortega. Survivors include his wife of five years, Edna Ortega; Son, Mark Matthew Palacios Ortega and his son's mother, Denise Palacios, father Leandro D. Ortega, brothers, Leandro Joel Ortega (Janie), John Andrew Ortega (Regina) and Lorenzo Cruz Ortega (Rosa). In addition to Mark's immediate family he leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Pallbearers: Peter Jimenez, Adam Jimenez, Lorenzo Ortega, Michael Ortega, Andrew Ortega, Willie Toscano, Gene Palacios, Jesse John Pena. Honorary Pallbearers: Christopher Ortega, Greg Salazar III and Thomas Adams.
SERVICES
Visitation will be at Mission Park South Funeral Chapel September 25, 2011 from 5:00pm - 9:00pm, with a prayer service at 7:00pm. The Funeral will be Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:00am at Mission Park South Funeral Chapel. The interment will follow at Mission Burial Park South.

Dearest Edna and Ortega family my sincere condolences go out to you. Mark was a Great friend and consider family to me. I have know the Ortega's family for over 30 years and he was a amazing person and will be truly missed but never forgotten especially for his loving heart,beautiful smile and voice like an angel. I went to elementary, middle and high school with Mark. He was so sweet and kind. God gave him a beautiful voice to share with us. We were blessed to have him in our lives.

I never knew Mr . Ortega but my husband was also a musician.. He past away a little over a year ago. I understand your pain and the love that he had for his music. I shared some of my best childhood memories with Mark. From elementary, middle and into high school we grew up together; playing sports, attending each other's cheesy birth-day parties and even getting in trouble together. He was truly one of the most outgoing, sincere and caring people I ever met. After high school we embarked upon separate paths and though communication and visits steadily decreased, I still consider him one of my best friends. Edna and the entire Ortega family, please except my deepest condolences and know that Mark will live on through music, friendship and lasting memories.

Mark and I shared several classes at Terrell Wells and McCollum HS. I will remember him for the friendship we had. He was a very honest and sweet young man when I knew him and I am sad to hear about this and for his family.; My heart goes out to his family and to his friends. He will be dearly miss.

I was blessed to have had Mark in my life. I could not have asked for a better friend growing up. He will always have a special place in my heart. I can remember as children nothing could keep us apart. As life went on, we took different paths my love for Mark will always last. I will never forget the hopes and dreams we shared, like a brother and sister we always cared. We were inseparable he and I, we would laugh and laugh until we cried. His memory will live on with all his beautiful songs. It hurts so much to have lost a friend especially one as wonderful as him. always tried to find you when I came back from Michigan so we could karaoke it up. wish I didn't have to find you this way brother, as long as I sing karaoke you will always be remembered, thanks for helping me with all you showed me about being on stage and to help be myself while singing.. you will be missed mark, wish we could sing one last time but I'm sure your singing up there. just remember to pass the mic when I get there brother..
