Melvin Eilers Obituary

Melvin Leroy Eilers, 65, of Seguin, died September 25, 2001. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, September 27, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. in Goetz Memorial Chapel with Rev. Carl McCauley officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the Goetz Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Mr. Eilers was born January 12, 1936 in Houston to Henry and Ola (Weckworth) Eilers. On September 9, 1956, he married Betty Gray in Harlingen. He committed 40 years of his life to government service, was a member of the McQueeney Lions Club and was active in our community. He assisted the students of Ball Elementary School by providing school supplies, Christmas gifts and other needs. Mr. Eilers received the Distinguished Service Award from the Rotaract Club of Texas Lutheran University. Survivors include his wife, Betty Eilers of Seguin; son, Carl Eilers of Seguin; daughter, Cindy Stephens and husband David of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Leroy Alloway of San Antonio, Katrina Eilers of San Antonio and Daniel Eilers of Seguin; brothers, Leslie Eilers and wife Pat of Chanelview, Tom Eilers and wife Debbie of Brenham and Gary Eilers and wife Elaine of Spring. Other survivors include Roger Alloway and wife Mona of Stockdale and their daughters, Tiffany Alloway and Terri Anne Boomer and husband John. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Eilers was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jerry Eilers. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Melvin Eilers Scholarship Fund at Texas Lutheran University.
