Michael Hatch Obituary

Michael Anthony Hatch
Michael Anthony Hatch, beloved son, brother, uncle, Godfather, and friend passed away surrounded in love and peace with his family. Born on February 8, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas, he was a light and an inspiration to all he encountered.

He was at once intellectually curious and a gifted student of music, math, philosophy, chess, and the natural world among many, many other things. An avid reader and joyful explorer, he cherished a good adventure, whether it was between two bookends or navigating the map of a national park or hiking along a coastline.

He thoroughly enjoyed sports both as lifelong athlete, who eventually traded in his tennis racket and basketball, for golf clubs, and as an enthusiast offering equal parts criticism and praise for his teams of choice.

He excelled throughout his traditional education as well as expanding his capacity to grow and learn, whether following cutting edge advances in science and technology or teaching himself and practicing Japanese. His chosen profession was higher education and was always teaching, in the classroom, as well as to the countless others who were fortunate enough to cross his path and be forever better for it.

Like his own father, he was a calm-mannered, soft-spoken, deeply kind, compassionate, and considerate soul who led a life of purpose, intention, clarity, and presence. He also shared the family sweet tooth and appreciation for a quality enchilada.

His generosity was ever present, and he was able to impart wisdom without making its recipient feel self-conscious. He expected the same from others and had quite the clever wit to bring humor and reason to any conversation. Even his teasing taunts were filled with a charm, so you knew he never intended any offense.

He is survived by his mother Diamantina Sanchez Hatch; five sisters Teri, Carol, Stella, Sylvia, and Sheila; four nieces Tina, Rita, Jessica, and Jemma; three nephews Adrian Jr., Elliott, and Teddy and their families; a brother-in-law Adrian; and a nephew-in-law Nolan. He is predeceased by his father James Hatch and brother-in-law Tom.

There will be a celebration of life for the family at a later date. If interested, donations could be made in Michael's honor to the Big Bend National Park at the link below:
