Fr. Levy's his first obedience was to St. Anthony Juniorate as Professor. He was assigned to St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans for 16 years. He was at St. Mary's in San Antonio also for a total of 16 years as pastor where he was well esteemed by the parishioners. He became Director of Oblate Madonna Residence in 2009 until his retirement in 2015.

Father Levy was a very humorous pastor I remember him when I was going to St Louis Cathedral School in 1975 to 1983

Father Mike was larger than life. His sermons were full of truth, scripture, and lots of love. Our family parish growing up was St Mary’s. My mom and dad Tony and Dorothy Scarnato, as mom would say, loved “shooting the bull” with him. He was an excellent priest and was loved by many. Eternal rest grant unto Fr Mike oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he Rest In Peace. ✝

Father Mike was our “Family Priest” for many years. My mom and dad were Tony and Dorothy Scarnato, long-time parishioners. Father Mike masses were always meaningful and he was always there for us. He’s married some of us, baptized us and our kids, and even buried some of us. He was a wonderful priest, we’re gonna miss him. God rest his soul.

Thank you Fr. Levy for your service to our community. It was great serving as altar boy for your masses. Your homilies were always insightful and taught me many worldly lessons. I always think of working with you and Dad (Leon) at the St. Louis Cathedral School Thursday night bingo games.

He was an amazing homilist and told us great stories about our faith and Catholic Church. I learned very much from Fr Mike and he will be greatly missed. May he be most happy now with our Lord and Mother Mary!

When I was officing downtown from 1992-2000, I often attended daily Mass, celebrated by Fr. Levy. His Masses were heartfelt, and his homilies humorous and thought-provoking. He was no-nonsense, but compassionate and kind, especially to the homeless who congregated often around St. Mary's Church downtown. When he retired from St. Mary's, it felt like the closing of a great institution. We knew that wherever he was posted next, he would make as great an impact as he did as pastor. Indeed, that came to pass at Oblate Madonna Residence. He never kicked back and rested in retirement--he kept the flame of his priesthood alive and hardy! I know he is enjoying his well-deserved reward in Heaven. May he intercede for us with Our Lord, and pray that we, too, can emulate him in the many virtues he always showed--especially love. God bless and keep you, Fr. Levy.

Oh Father Levy you were a great man of God! At the time we were too little to really understand your sweet spirit. All we knew then was that we loved your fun loving presence and your friendly smiley. You were always so warm and fun to be around at St. Louis Cathedral Elementary School. Now as an adult I can say with confidence that was the Jesus inside of you that you shared with us daily. I am sure you continued to share that light long after you left Cathedral. Now you can join all of the others who carried Jesus in their hearts up there in Glory. You will definitely be missed. Love you Father Levy and rest well.

I remember you from St. Louis Cathedral School and church in the 80’s. You was our priest that always had a smile. You always made time to walk the school yard and check on all of us. To this day I’ve never heard anyone else say Mass the way you did. I was in grade school and your voice at mass reached me. Rest In Peace Father❤

I have nothing but the fondest memories of him. Everything from sweet greetings on the playground at St. Louis Cathedral to masses in the church, the convent chapel, the auditorium and even in the rectory chapel early in the morning before the school fair. Rest in peace good and faithful servant.

I remember Father Levy from St Louis Cathedral School in New Orleans where my children attended school and I had the pleasure of serving as PTA president for a number of years. Father Levy was a delight to work with and provided a wealth of spiritual guidance for me and my family. May his soul rest in peace.

Father Levy was a powerful soldier in the army of the most high God. He influenced many young people at St. Louis Cathedral school and church. We served mass as alter boys for years and had the pleasure of his wisdom and guidance through out the time we spent there. We were taught the true nature of how to be of service to God and others. It moved my spirit and shaped my life. Father Levy will forever hold a place in my heart.

Fr. Levy loved the school children! He would stop in the school yard and play when the kids would call to him. Fr. Levy was instrumental in me getting my job at St. Louis Cathedral School. I will always remember his gentleness and sincere concern for the Teresian Sisters, the students, staff, and families. Masses with the school children and Fr. Levy were so educational and spiritual. He would cater to the kids. They loved having a part in the school masses.

He lived a long and faith filled life.

My condolences to his family and friends.

My children went to St. Louis Cathedral School in the French Quarter in New Orleans when Fr. Levy oversaw its operation. The children and staff there had a great relationship with him. I ended up working with him on school fairs, fundraising, computers, bingos, and the Parents-Teachers Club from 1975 to 1992. I started in my mid-twenties and he was an excellent mentor. When he first came to Cathedral School it was literally financially broke. When he left it had enough in a trust fund to cover all costs for 1-1/2 years. He also helped put in one of the first computer classrooms for any school in New Orleans in the early 1980's. It was for all the students from K to 8. My wife and I visited him at St. Mary's in San Antonio in 2006 and his hair had turned white but he was still the same. I've been thinking of calling him lately and when I googled his name to try to check the phone #, I found the obituary. I think he wanted us to know. Richard & Claudia Launey

When I worked 3rd shift at a hotel downtown almost 20 years ago, I needed some spiritual refreshment and I happened upon an early morning mass at St. Mary’s and I got more than that when I witnessed Father Levy giving mass. He had so much passion and fervor and genuine devotion to the mass and message he tried to convey. I brought my whole family to mass and we were loyal parishioners ever since. Confessions with him were brutal because he told you what you needed to hear. Counseling sessions with him were so heartfelt because he always listened and had words of wisdom. We were sad to see him retire because there has never been anyone like him before him or after him. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family. He was a true light in this world. His many sacrifices and devotion have been appreciated and loved and admired. Father Levy always rejuvenated my soul every time I heard him give mass. I have not stopped missing you and I never will.

Fr. Levy was our teacher, coach, and 'Prefect', or disciplinarian , at St. Anthony's Seminary in the '60s. He always tried to us teach us to put 110% into whatever we were doing. He was the model of that. His preparation was legend, whether for his Algebra class, the 3-1-1 press, or preaching that one summer's St. Jude radio novena in N.O. (...or for perfecting his really good magic tricks!). Alway enthusiastic, he expected and usually got your best effort. Some of the things he taught were such that they would come to mind at important times of life, a lot like what a parent's influence would be. And now Father, you've got that front row seat in the heavenly galaxies you so diligently studied in your Great Courses. We miss you, we love you, and we're counting on you to continue to help us get where you taught us we belong.

Father Mike was so sweet and had the best sense of humor. He was a delight and we loved when he came to our office. We knew we'd get stories and there would be laughter. He told me I was a bad dancer because I stepped on his disc when I was trying to move him from his wheelchair to the exam chair. He used to tease me so bad. He is truly loved and will be dearly missed.

Father Levy was most definitely my favorite patient at our optometry office. From the moment I met him back in 2015, I just wanted to hang out and talk with him all the time. He was so much fun to be around and so witty! Never a dull moment in the office when he was in and we all loved him very much.

We're gonna miss him dearly but we are forever grateful to have known such an incredible man! Thank you Father Levy for all of your encouragement, laughs and faithful guidance

The first 15 years of his priesthood were devoted to St. A's High School Seminary where he was a feared and respected disciplinarian, legendary Algebra teacher, tremendous orator, and trusted counselor. Perhaps most amazing this proud son of the "French Quarta" by the age of 36 had somehow mastered the art of coaching H.S.Basketball.In1967 he took a rag tag group of seminarians led by 3 sophomore starters to THE TEXAS CATHOLIC AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!! This was done at a school with an avg. Graduating class of 30 per yr. Not to be outdone in the Spring of '69 he again led The now"Mighty Mighty Jackets" to the TCIL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP with names such as Cooney, Sain, Light,Burkhart,Ricke and Mack etched in Jacket Glory!!So the next time you are St A'sGym look at the 67 and 69 banners on the wall andremember That Heaven just got not only a tremendous pastor and champion of the poor, but one heck of a basketball Coach Father Mike Levy !!

Fr. Levy was my Algebra I teacher at St. Anthony Seminary when I was a First Former in 1959-1960. Forty years later I attended mass (Feast of the Assumption) at St. Marys downtown. After mass I went up to him and mentioned he did not know who I was, but he had been my worst nightmare in 1959-1960. He said, Oh, the algebra years! He asked what I was doing and I told him I had just retired from public school teaching after thirty-two years. He asked what subject I had taught, and I responded, Math! I had to confess I was kidding and had to tell him I taught Spanish and Language Arts which provided a good laugh about the math bit. I told him I wanted to thank him after all these years because throughout all my schooling, he had been the best teacher I had ever had. He was very passionate about his teaching and demanded the best from his students. Thank you, again, Fr. Levy. May your soul be resting in Eternal Peace.

Fr. Levy was an inspiration in my life both on and off the basketball court. He was a guiding influence in my life at St. Anthony's. He was a strict disciplinarian but was also kind and forgiving. He taught me about the value of life and to show kindness and to help people when I can. His laughter and sharp wit will be truly missed. Take care my friend, I hope to see you on the otherside.

Fr. Mike Levy was very important to me in the first three years after I became Catholic and still worked in downtown San Antonio. I attended weekday 7 AM Mass at St. Marys several times a week, and Father helped me with various issues and became my regular confessor. He also sponsored me, so to speak, in my consecration to Our Lady under the rule of St. Louis de Montfort. I was always inspired by his preaching and his example, such as the way he prayed the Stations of the Cross every morning before Mass. A great and holy man of faith. Thanks for everything, Father Mike. Requiescat in pace.

Always one to stand up for the homeless and the poor, Fr. Mike was an advocate in being kind and considerate to everyone whose lives he touched. We have been blessed in his being so much a part of our daily lives. Living downtown, we were fortunate to have him join us for many wonderful lunches, scrumptious dinners, and memorable holiday buffets ~ he especially loved Christmas, it's meaning and all the joy that was special in his heart! He loved astrology, was mystified by the greatness of the galaxies and the astonishment of the planets and stars, "a gift from God", he would say.
He placed God and family first, appreciated his friendships and gave his heart unselfishly to all of us in need of his spiritual guidance. He fought the fight and in God's eyes, we know he won.
We love him like no other, he was truly a gift to us all.

I first met Fr. Mike in 2007 when I accidentally found myself at the noon mass at St. Marys. Once I heard his sermon I was hooked and made daily mass a part of my life. Fr. Mike was without question the most influential person in my faith development. My kids and I will forever be grateful for the incredible blessing he was to our family. I pray he will get the recognition he deserves for the incredible person and pastor that he was to many.
We love you Fr. Mike and will miss you dearly. You will forever be a part of our family. I pray you have all the gumbo and shrimp PO boys your heart desires.

Fr Mike was a tremendous blessing to me . He was there at St . Marys when I attended school there being an endless inspiration for me. Big smile, stern lessons followed by laughter. I always wanted to be an altar server however girls were not allowed to do so but the wait was over when he invited me to be a lector, sacristan and an overpaid singer for mass . His check to me never had a whole number in the beginning only zeros . Whenever he would think about giving me a raise he said he would only add another zero .Thank you Fr . Mike for your love , prayers and many blessings and of course my unforgettable name given to me by you , hambone.

I had the privilege of serving mass as an altar boy for Fr. Levy at St Marys Church. I remember Fr. Levy before Mass having a folder in his hand that contained the sermon he was going to deliver. I recall many of his homily being inspirational, not just to me but to the audience. Many times I would hear inspiring comments from the parishioners about his sermon. During my adolescent years Fr. Levy provided me alot of advice and counsel. Thank you Lord for allowing Fr. Levy into my life.

His homilies always inspired you to be the best Christian possible. His lectures were passionate and motivated you to master whatever he taught.

I am grateful you touched my life. I am a better person because because of it.

Father Mike, You were the best! I went to St. Mary's school and was baptized, first confession, first communion, confirmed and married at St. Mary's and you were the best priest we ever had!

Thank you again for taking care of my mother's funeral on very short notice in 2007. Freddie and I are doing a rosary for you this morning and we are offering up Mass for you tomorrow.

If Jesus ever needs a Spring and Fall Festival in heaven, he has the right priest now!

Rest in peace with Jesus

Father Mike Levy was a spiritual advisor to me, my daughter and many other parishioners at St.Marys Church. He had a special gift of teaching us to have a true relationship with God, through Jesus Christ.
His homiles were very powerful that you could feel they were intented for you. If you listened, Father Mike would give you more reason to pursue God, thu Jesus Christ. Especially in our present situation, he would show you reasons to trust and increase your faith in Our Lord.
He was a very kind and compassionate priest. He understood the homeless and was generous in their needs.
He would send me shopping for the children whose parents had either loss their jobs or could not make ends meet at Christmas.
He loved the parishioners and staff. He looked forward to church festivals because he enjoyed watching the parishioners work together and enjoy themselves.
Father Mike Levy was highly respected in the corporate and
legal world. His noon masses could testify to that.
Father Mike Levy will be greatly missed. He will always be respected and cherished by many of the St.Marys parishioners.

Father Mike was my teacher and a coach at Saint Anthony's in San Antonio. Under his leadership, we won the state TCIL basketball championship twice. He was tough coach who really loved the game and loved his players. And he taught us to play with style, ahead of the curve on that one. In later years, he became more of a spiritual mentor to me, as I visited him at the Madonna Residence in San Antonio. Rest in peace, Father. This world will miss your energy.
