Michael George McNiel, 69, of Floresville, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025. Michael was born February 24, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas to parents, Carroll and Joyce Nowell McNiel.
A man's work is his legacy; this is where Mike McNiel's work started. He was always so proud of where it began. In the early years of his childhood, he would help his father with the family business by making the sawdust daily and then being en route for deliveries to the local businesses nearby. He enjoyed working side by side with his father and learned at an early age what it meant to provide for a family. As for his years of schooling, he graduated from McCollum High School in 1974, which he always liked to remind everyone he was a southside boy. After graduation, he made a commitment to marriage in 1977 that would last 48 years together. Then went to work for his father-in-law at Acme Roofing, learning everything that needed to be learned about roofing. He started from the bottom and worked his way up to being one of Acme Roofing's top estimators. When the company decided to close its doors, there was determination to continue in the business. He started his own roofing company in 1980 with the company name McNiel Roofing & Sheet Metal. A property was found and turned into a business office with many employees through the years. As their business started, their family also grew with children. Over the years, many commercial buildings, schools, and public libraries have had quality roofs installed that can withstand and last. Each family member would work for the company and grow the business, each having their own part to play in the growth of success. The business has been around for 45 years; he continued to work until the last year of his life, still bidding on jobs and providing for the family. He was well known as a businessman, husband, father, uncle, brother, friend, and the greatest grandfather you could have asked for. He was a great man, and a man of means.
Michael is survived by his wife, Rhonda Massey McNiel; children, Melissa Galloway, Lee McNiel, Kenneth McNiel (Kendra) and Jason McNiel; grandchildren, Beaux, Karlee, Cael, Kaiden, Emma, Riggs and Raelie; granddogs, Biggie and Jaxon.
He is preceded by his parents; brothers, Donald McNiel and James McNiel, and grandson Brody McNiel.
Memorial Service will be on Saturday, January 10, 2025, at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Chapel in Stockdale. Immediately following the service, family and friends will gather at St Mary's Catholic Church Parish Hall at 1201 W Saint Mary's St Stockdale, TX 78160.
