Ramon Amado Guerra, age 76, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 12, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, and active parishioner.
Ramon was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Maria del Rosario Guerra at a young age, and was raised by his grandmother Sra. Perez and Uncles Oscar and Fernando Guerra. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Rebecca Guerra; his children Ramon Alonso Guerra and partner Laura Chavez; Ricardo Amado Guerra, wife Idalia Maria Guerra, beautiful granddaughters Alina Lucia Guerra and Astrid Luz Guerra; and daughter Dr. Rosa Alisa Guerra. He had six first cousins, Dardanella Cardenas, ♱Dr. Fernando Guerra, Raul Guerra, Irma Perez, Josephine Perales, and Charlotte Garcia, whom he loved as siblings.
Ramon attended Our Lady of Guadalupe and Sacred Heart for elementary and middle school. He was educated under the Marianist Tradition and graduated from Central Catholic High School (Class of '64) and St. Mary's University with a BA and MA. He was a passionate educator whose career spanned 37 years in public schools. He taught government and thereafter became a school counselor. At the age of 30, he became a principal in the San Antonio Independent School District leading Johnson and later Margil Elementary schools. In the 90s, he worked in several capacities, as the Director of Guidance and Counseling, and Director of Career Technology and Education in the Edgewood Independent School District. He loved to keep his mind active and stay busy. During retirement, he began a second career working for the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
His generosity extended beyond the workday where he made his community a better place. He was a member of St. Paul's Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Knights, Knights of St. Gregory, and the San Antonio Optimist Club. He held leadership positions on the PTC at St. Paul's and Central Catholic, and most recently was Chairperson of St. Paul's Pastoral Counsel. Additionally, he served on the St. Mary's University Alumni Board, Board of Directors for Central Catholic, Archdiocesan School Board as President, and School Board for Mount Sacred Heart. He was especially proud to be affiliated with the Marianists, the Brigidine Sisters, Salesian Sisters, the Josefinas, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration of Guadalupe.
Ramon was grateful for his many blessings, including loyal friends, loving family, and a strong faith. He loved to travel, sing, and dance. In his last days he enjoyed seeing his granddaughters, watching las noticias y novelas, listening to Juan Gabriel classics, and cheering on the Spurs. Ramon had a contagious smile with a keen sense of humor that was evident even in his final days. He will be greatly missed.
The family thanks all his healthcare providers. They are grateful for the love and support received from family and friends.

Ramón was my best man at our wedding, a long time friend, mentor and role model, especially in our faith. This part of our relationship has strengthen as of late because I pray for his soul every night using the card that we received during his funeral 3 years ago. This new habit has brought me back to the Church in a big way, after being a bit aloof about the clergy for all the issues that were afflicting us all, causing pain and doubt in my heart. Sylvia, we won't forget him, ever, and the least we can do right now is to pray for his soul and for your health and faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

I don't see our condolences in this guest book, so I will give some thoughts on how I met Ramón and what happened after that.
When I arrived at St. Mary's University in September of 1966, the first person I met after stepping out of the taxi was Ramón. He took me to my dorm and that started a strong friendship that culminated in him being our Best Man at our wedding in May of 1971. We worked together in the dorms and we even shared a suite in our senior years.
Our friendship was strong, but I had to leave the US to go back to Chile and we only saw each other once in a while after that. My regret, for sure!
After his passing, my way of staying in touch is to pray for his soul every night, but it's not the same. Fortunately, Sylvia, his wife is keeping in touch and that is much appreciated.
We miss you, friend, and hope the Lord is taking care of you just like you did for so many here on this earth.
To Sylvia and the Guerra family our warmest regards and may God be with you always!

Sincerest condolences to the family of Ramon Guerra. We were colleagues of Ramon and will remember him as a strong advocate for students and educators alike. With his leadership roles in schools, school districts and professional organizations, he made excellent use of his educational leadership skills to make possible the best learning environment for all concerned. His legacy will always remain in the students, communities, and teachers & staff that he served. Rest In Peace, my friend.

MY prayerful thoughts are with the Guerra family as you mourn the loss of Ramon. My memories of this faith-filled gentle man remain with me after many years. Ramon was very instrumental in the process of my appointment to St Paul's School San Antonio. His ability to manage all the challenges of visas and immigration were efficient and professional but his deeply held values of Catholic faith and education are my special memories. I often pray with much gratitude for my years in San Antonio and it was Ramon who made this possible. You will miss him dearly. May our God welcome him home. Sr Anne Hill

I will always remember Ramon for his persistent smile and wonderful sense of humor. He brought light and happiness into conversations. Ramon extended much kindness to me when I was working in San Antonio and he was a Principal. His staff and co-workers had high praise for him as a leader. At home, Ramon was a dedicated family man who demonstrated his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. My fondest memory is when we took a picture in our backyard of "los cinco Ramones" with my Dad, Ramon, my brother Ramon, my son Ramon Troy, Ramon, and his son Ramon. He will be missed by many for his numerous contributions to his family and community. May he rest in eternal peace and may God's angels surround his family and give them strength during this difficult time. The Hernandez-Horner family extends our deepest condolences.

The Garza family extends our most heartfelt and sincerest condolences and sympathies to Ramon's family during this difficult time.
I very fondly remember Ramon's sheer exuberance and humor during the few opportunities we had to socialize. There was never a moment that I can recall where he ever embraced any negative or pessimistic outlook on personal and family matters. To say that he was a bright star in this world would be an understatement of what he accomplished and inspired others to yearn for. He will be dearly missed.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Sylvia, Ramon, Ricardo, and Rosa. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
I have very fond memories of Ramon whom I first met during our college years. After college, we unexpectedly met up again when we both started our education careers with SAISD teaching at the same high school. As a first-year teacher, I felt very blessed to be teaching at the same school with Ramon. Years later when Ramon was named Principal of Margil Elementary, I was very honored to serve as his school counselor at Margil. These were great years! Ramon was an outstanding Principal and leader. I will always remember Ramon as a kind, thoughtful, fun, and supportive friend. Rest In Peace, Ramon. Until we meet again! Thanks for your friendship!

To The Family of Ramon Guerra,
Please accept my profound and most sincere condolences. Do find solace in knowing that Ramon will be remembered in my daily prayers and may his soul rest in peace. Those wonderful and enjoyable memories of Ramon is what will keep him alive in your heart and soul forever.
I first met Ramon at St. Mary's University in the fall of 1967 when we were both dorm students. We became very good friends and our friendship continued through the years. We still kept in touch via emails.
Just remember that Ramon will always be with you, in memory and in prayer, for the love between you is a spiritual bond that death cannot sever. So, let yourself heal, in your own time and in your own way. Ramon would have want it that way.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow and I pray that our loving Lord will grant you the strength and courage to accept His divine will.
I would like to offer my poem, "The Loss of a Loved One," in Ramon's memory.
With my deepest sympathy,

"The Loss of a Loved One"
If thou must leave me
Go gently into the night
Close your eyes one last time
And have your last sleep
My world will not be the same
Your smile, your voice, your laughter
All will be gone
But for the open wound
That eternal scar
Not even time can heal
You will never be forgotten
Not even with the passage of time
Yes, the world was a better place
And you will be missed immensely
Those wonderful memories
Speak to me from the center of my sorrow
Your beautiful love will remain
Etched in my heart forever."
