I knew Ray when I was at Assumption seminary. And he was a priest at St. James Church in my neighborhood. He was genuinely a kind guy and had all the important qualities needed to be an effective counselor, warmth, genuiness, high levels of empathy and an excellent listener. He was a big help to me during those formative years. Wished I had stayed in touch.

Fr. Henke, Phillip Carrol, and I (Sal) were pals. Phillip and I were alter boys, ushers, girl chior, CCD teachers, print the Sunday bulletin, and helped Johnny Rodriguez (another pal) keep our church (Saint James the Apostle) maintained during the period 1957 thru 1965. Ray shared his time with us going to the coast, overnights stays at his parents home I think in Karnes or Fall city, Texas. Boy, did Phillip have the greatest mentor. I not sure if Ray ever got use to having us around because we never did anything wrong. I hope we didn't bore him. Love, Sal & Phillip. The Ornelas family

Raymond Henke was my cousin. My mother (Agnes Henke Wright) and Raymond's father were siblings. Raymond was 14 years older than I; therefore, as children we did not run in the same circles. However, I remember him as handsome and having a great sense of humor. My sister, Carolyn, really has so many fine memories of him and his sisters. We loved the entire family. I was always so proud of him.

Sense of humor, always smiling, Ray was a friend who kept an eye on me as a young priest and helped me through the hard times.

I was one of Father Henke's parishioners back in the day when I was a teen, I have great memories of those days at St. James and of Father Henke. May he rest in peace in the Glory of our Lord and Savior.
