Raymond Lackey Obituary
Raymond Alexander Lackey, 86, entered into his eternal rest on Friday, December 30, 2005. He is now in heaven with his bride of 52 years, Clara Antonia Reininger Lackey, one year and eight days after she became one of God's angels. Ray was a lifelong San Antonian and 1939 Brackenridge High graduate, where he was captain of the basketball team and all-city athlete. Although his father's untimely death kept Ray from attending his beloved Texas A&M, he truly was a member of the Greatest Generation. To Dad, family, sacrifice and fatherhood were what life was all about. Pre-war, Ray was an Alamo Iron Work draftsman and Kelly Field sheetmetal mechanic. During the war, he built runways and bridges while stationed in the Solomon Islands as a Navy SeaBee. Upon returning home, Ray began his career as a U.S. Postal Service mail handler. Raymond was a longtime member of St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, Sons of Herman Siemering Lodge and Manke Park Association. He was a CYO Coach and a Cub Scout leader. He was a dedicated CAM volunteer and played pinochle regularly at Lion's Field Seniors Center. Besides Clara, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Jacob. He is survived by three sons; Michael W. Lackey and wife, Linda (San Antonio), Patrick Lackey and wife, Barbara (New Braunfels), and Timothy Lackey and wife, Renai (Carrollton). He was Opa to eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Our heartfelt thanks go to Rebecca Lozano, RN, and Patricia Jennings for the wonderful care they provided to Dad over the past few years. He also treasured his daily visits with the Christian Senior Services "Meals on Wheels" program volunteers. ROSARY TUESDAY JANUARY 3, 2006 7:00 P.M.
