Richard Nathan Azar II

1946 - 2024

Richard Nathan Azar II passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, at the age of 77. Richard was born on December 1, 1946, in El Paso, Texas to Richard and Aneica Azar. He graduated salutatorian from El Paso Jesuit High School and earned a business degree from the University of Texas in Austin. While at Texas, Richard was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and found the love of his life, Mary "Dianne" Motter. They were married on January 25, 1969. After graduation, they moved to Washington D.C. where Richard served his Country as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army working Military Intelligence. Post service, they moved back to El Paso in 1972 where Richard worked with his father at Dickshire Coors, the first Coors Beer Distributor in Texas. After helping grow Coors Beer in El Paso, Richard and Dianne acquired Orbit Coors in San Antonio and moved there to expand the family business. In 1984 Richard sold Orbit Coors and embarked on an entrepreneurial journey with close friend and business partner of 44 years, Donnie B. Seay, that spanned banking, casinos, jewelry stores, wine & spirits, oil and gas development and restaurants. Of all these, oil & gas was their favorite industry, and for the rest of their working lives, Richard and Donnie pursued it with great passion. They loved the art of the deal and the risk of drilling wells.

Richard was a family first man. He loved his family! Family trips, family meals and family time together were a must. Family meals were full of long conversations, lots of laughter and fun. Gatherings with friends were the same. He loved Texas Longhorn Football, hunting, fishing, golf and traveling. He loved shared experiences!

Richard never met a stranger and was always generous to those in need. He was dedicated to being involved in his community, serving in many organizations, clubs and philanthropies. He was especially proud of his involvement with the Texas Biomedical Research Institute and being a mentor for aspiring entrepreneurs in the Alamo Heights HS Heights Business Incubator program.

Richard is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Mary "Dianne" Motter Azar; his three sons Richard Nathan Azar III (Kim), John Benjamin Azar (Emily), Bryan Andrew Azar (Juliana); his daughter Kimberley Azar Claiborne (Justin); his ten grandchildren who affectionately call him "Da", Richard Nathan Azar IV (Sammy), Sloane Simpson Glass (Reed), Tucker Pennington Azar, Grey Alexandra Simpson, Carlson Elizabeth Azar, John Benjamin Shepperd, Ava Aneica Shepperd, Robert Cole Claiborne, Azizi Evalyn Azar, and Abigail Emaline Azar; his great grandchild, Waylyn Reese Glass; his brothers Robert Edward Azar, Gregory Alan Azar and his sister Cheryl Lynn Azar McCown; and his sister-in-law, Maureen Motter Tobin.

Richard is also now in Heaven with his grandson Shibley "Traylor" Azar and brother-in-law, John Cummings Motter, III.
