Richard Hersey Obituary
Richard Lee Hersey of Converse, Texas, went to be the lord on February 9, 2010 at the age of 64. Richard was born November 17, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late William C. Hersey and Martha M. Hersey. At an early age Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his lord savior. Richard received his education in the Philadelphia school system, graduating from Overbrook High School. His passion was cooking and sewing, he was to be a tailor. He loved to read and traveler. Richard retired from the USAF on September 1, 1988 after having served a period of 23 years of active duty. He was in employed by Scott ABF Illinois 9 years retired from there December 1997. He had numerous awards both military and civilian. Richard Lee Hersey, was preceded in death by sisters, Annabell Williams, Ella Washington, and is survived by his wife Thelma N. Gibson-Hersey; two sisters Emma Whitfield and Lillian Upchurch; one brother-in-law, Hayward Upchurch; two brothers William C. Hersey, Jr. (Sonny), Leroy Hersey; one sister-in-law, Violet O. Hersey; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends. Graveside Services will take place at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday February 17, 2010 at 1:45 PM.

Thelma, you and Mr. Hersey have been in my life since I can remember! The memories that I share with you all as a child and into adulthood will never go away. The love, happiness, laughter and fun times have been valued and treasured by me and my son over the years. I am just so thankful that the Lord blessed me to be able to spend those holidays, birthdays and time with you and Mr. Hersey. I appreciate everything you have done for me and I will be there for you always!

I hope that the peace and understanding the Gods wisdom can provide will help guide you through this difficult time. I realize words alone cannot provide the comfort that a higher power can give. I sincerely pray that that power completely overtakes you during the coming weeks. If there is any help or assistance that I can personally provide...please don't even think about it. To GOD Be The Glory. I pray that He keeps you in your time of bereavement and continue to keep and protect you for the moments, days, months and years to come. Richard has completed his earthly journey and is now in the Master's Garden tending to his work there.
It's been some time since I last saw Richard, but my prayers are with the family and know that I think of you often. Many good times have been shared with each of you and may all of life's memories be held dear at this time and always.

Hersey “Dad” was a true father figure and friend to many of us from the K.I. Sawyer Crew. He provided great conversation, guidance, friendship, food and even drink out of the kindness of his heart. Hersey is dearly missed and he was like a father to me. I met him over 25 yrs ago and from the day I met him, he made feel as though I was his biological son.
