Robert Ashley Obituary
April 12, 1937 - December 18, 2025
Robert "Bob" L. Ashley, age 88, passed away on December 18, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on April 12, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, to parents, Dorothy (Jarrett) Ashley and Robert Ashley.
Bob graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He earned his Physical Therapy degree from Kansas State Medical Center and his master's from Emory University.
He joined the Army as a Captain and had assignments in Colorado, Vietnam, West Point, Texas, Germany and Missouri before retiring after 22 years and continued working as a physical therapist in San Antonio for many years.
Bob was an active member of the Alzafar Shrine donating his time to the Honor Guard and the Hospital Corps whose mission was driving children for medical care in Houston and Galveston. He was instrumental in setting up the Cellular on Patrol program in Garden Ridge.
Bob enjoyed sports whether watching or participating. He played senior softball and spent many hours on the golf course with his buddies. Bob and Becky enjoyed traveling on over 60 cruises all around the world. They especially loved returning to Frankfurt, Germany many times and visiting their German friends and neighbors, Paul and Christl Ott.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, Dorothy and Robert Ashley; and his sister, Georgia K. Westerman. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Rebecca Ashley; his children, Robert Ashley (Kris), Pamela Ashley (Nathaniel), Dayle Forthun (Timm), Kyle Ashley (Betty); his 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Epperson; and nephews, Kevin and Keith Epperson.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
The Rev. Melinda Wood Allen will officiate. Interment with military honors to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzafar Shrine Transportation Fund 901 N Loop 1604 W, San Antonio, TX 78232
