Robert Spanley Obituary

November 23, 1943 - February 9, 2017
Robert Spanley, born November 23, 1943, passed away peacefully with his family February 9, 2017. He was born in Orange, Texas to Gerald and Gracie Spanley.

Robert had many passions in life. He was a true family man who supported both his children and grandchildren. He never missed an event or game, and if out of town, he would drive at breakneck speed to get back in time. He was always there cheering us on. He had a deep-seated love for animals and always had dogs in his life from the time he was a child. All of his pets were a part of his family. He was also an outdoorsman and loved nature. He passed his love of boating, fishing and camping on to his children and grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ginger; his son, Brian; grandsons, Zachary and Hunter Crossland; his parents; and brother, Billy.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Barry) Crossland; son, Kevin (Jaime) Spanley; grandchildren, Tyler and Kimberly Crossland and Parker and Makenna Spanley; as well as his siblings, Ron, Gerry and Richard Spanley, and Patti Nelson and their families. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Kevin, just found out today about your dad. So sorry for your loss. He loved to fight with me and always wondered why I was so "perky". He hated when I put snow flakes up in my office, but he loved my candy bowl and popcorn. Again, I'm so sorry.

For four years Robert was my across the hall office old vet mate. He would come and talk to me about his military time and we would compare old war stories. Army vs. Marines. We had long conversations about those times compared to the way it is today. Can't print those. Even though we worked for a tire company, we hardly ever talked business, for Robert it was family, friends and old times. I will always remember our conversations, his love of his dogs, his distain for bicycle riders on Hackerville road and anyone who couldn't drive as well as he could. I know your sadness, having lost my father a few years ago, but that is why God gave us memories so he will never be forgotten.

We are so sorry for your loss. We always remember your dad and his beautiful golden retrievers as he lived across the street from my parents. Now he is in heaven with your Mom and taking care of his golden retrievers that he both loved so much. May the Lord bless you, comfort you and wrap His loving arms around all of you.

Blessings,

Ramon and Teri Salinas
