Columbus , GA- Mary Elizabeth Tate Perkins, 90, of Columbus passed away on July 31, 2012.
Funeral services for Mrs. Perkins will be 3:00pm, Saturday, August 4, 2012, in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, with Reverend John Fugh officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Perkins will be from 5-7 pm, Friday, August 3, 2012, at the funeral home.
Mary Elizabeth Perkins was born October 16, 1921 in Henry County, Alabama to the late Charlie Tate and Ida Jane Bailey Tate. In addition to her parents Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by her husband, James Denton Perkins along with five brothers and two sisters. She retired as manager and buyer of the infant department at Warren's, now known as The Kiddie Shop, and was a long time member of Gentian Baptist Church. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.
Survivors include her son; James Markham Perkins of Columbus, GA, two daughters; Regina Ann Perkins Southerland and her husband, James of Gainesville, GA., Linda Jean Perkins Dietz and her husband, John of Peoria, AZ., four grandchildren; Shelley Ann Southerland Hill(Rick), Mary Elizabeth Southerland Honeycutt(David), Jennifer Christine Dietz Campbell(Jeff), and Jacob Charles Dietz(Emily), ten great-grandchildren; Caroline, Jameson and Braden Hill, Alex, Zachary, Mary Emma and Molly Honeycutt, Dylan and Molly Campbell and Henry Dietz, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted, however, those who wish may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association of Columbus, 5900 River Road, Suite 301, Columbus, GA 31904 or Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
