LEAL
Roland Edward Leal, aka Stroller, was a kind special person that touched the heart of everyone that knew him. He was called home to the Lord on March 10, 2014 with his family and friends by his side. He was diagnosed with cancer March 2013 right after celebrating his 60th birthday. Again celebrating his 61st birthday by playing golf for the 1st time (after a clean bill of health) with his best buddies Zeke, Roy and Jack.he played 18 holes.then celebrated his birthday at the infamous Club House. He was very proud to be a member of the Pan American Golf Assoc. and was just recently elected to the board. Roland started playing baseball at a very young age at St. James CYO with the help of his father Jesus as his pitching coach, and throughout his baseball career he played at Jefferson High School-Class of '71 then on to St. Mary's University-BA '77 and the Spanish-American League. He moved on to the game of fast-pitch, recruited by Jello with the S.A JayHawks and that's when the name Stroller was born.he could play the game and you could always count on him to get a hit. In 1987 they won the ASA-National Championship/Fast Pitch in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He worked at the United Parcel Service and was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 657 for 35 years as a driver.thanks to Pete Barela. He loved his customers and they loved him; and it showed at Christmas time. He made the Circle of Honor which is a very prestigious award. He always gave 110%, in early and out late. He loved his job and his family co-workers, they were all his brothers. UPS, we Thank You for all your support and guidance. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Leal and sister, Stella L. Casillas. Roland is survived by his mother, Estella P. Leal; wife, Linda A. Giddens and their baby, Chole; nieces Amanda C. Gallegos and her husband, Rick, and Lisa Martinez and her husband, Adrian; great nieces and nephews, Marissa & Rick Gallegos, Daniel, Duncan & Lilliana Brown; godson, Steven Espinoza; and goddaughter, Laila Anderson. We are left with many happy memories that will be cherished forever. Happy Trails.'till we meet again. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a 8:30 A.M. departure, Saturday, March 15, 2014 from Sunset Funeral Home Chapel for a 9:00 A.M. Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the church. Please accept our sincere sympathy. We only knew Roland from the deliveries he made to our home over the years but you always knew you would get a really friendly greeting by name and a big smile. He was a special man!

God Bless Roland and my deepest condolences to his entire family. If my memory serves me right, we, Holy Family played St. James for the CYO Mite Division City Championship at Don Dosco. His Dad was their coach and my Dad ours, they were good friends. We lost on a balk, a great game and too bad that one of those teams absorded the loss. Over the years we'd run into each other, I always reminded Roland of his overhand curve, wicked. No need to chip in on how good a person he was all the guest book entries are a true Testament. I know Mr. Leal and my Dad were at the purley gates waiting for Roland the new addition to their team in Heaven. 2 Timothy: 6, 7, 8.

Roland was the first UPS driver my brother and I had when we opened our shipping store in Boerne. That was in 1996. He helped us out so many times, and in so many ways. His kindness, sense of humor, and friendship will be greatly missed. The dedication he had for his customers and company are rare these days. Like me, I am sure that others who were privileged to work with him have learned well from the example he set.

We love you and will miss you Roland. Thank you for your friendship, and the great memories you have given us.

Neighborhood friends of the 200 block of Hearne Ave. Roland was the best baseball player of the neighborhood. I couldn't bear to stand in the batters box when the St. James CYO teams would scrimmage each other. He had a fantastic curve ball!! We had many good times in the old arena at the Spurs games, he always called me "Viejo" but he was older than me! A good guy I will remember always! We sure missed him at the last Hearne St. Reunion, God's Speed my friend, condolences to Linda and The Leal family.

Linda,
Roland was a special person to us. He made us feel like his family, even way out on Turkey Knob Road in Boerne.....it has never been the same since he stopped arriving at my door in his big brown truck, with a huge smile, a hug, a helping hand and a funny story. My golden retriever tried to go home with him on many many occasions- she knew a keeper when she saw him! To know the other side of Roland, through Cliff Dilley and friends made Roland even more special to us.
While we are so sorry for your loss, we know that Roland is in heaven, playing ball and loving life eternal! His presence will be so missed by those of us left on this earth and we find comfort by knowing his spirit will stay with us forever in the hills, sunsets and roads of the Hill Country and San Antonio, his home.
